Summary:

  • Position Summary:
  • Under the direction and supervision of a registered pharmacist, efficiently and effectively performs functions associated with the procuring, compounding and storage of medications in compliance with department policies and procedures that provide optimal pharmaceutical care.
  • Qualified individuals must have the ability with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the following duties:
  • Prepares medications for dispensing under the supervision of the pharmacist, demonstrating accuracy, precision, and consistency relating to selection, documenting, and labeling functions.
  • Prepares enhanced sterile product medications and performs needed calculations for preparing final product - consistently meets timelines of preparation within established schedules, policies, and guidelines.
  • Assists in the creation, handling, and maintenance of a variety of pharmacy records, to promote efficient operation of the pharmacy and regulatory compliance.
  • Assists with the clinical management of assigned patients under the supervision of a pharmacist and as permitted by law and regulation.
  • Consistently displays teamwork by actively supporting department changes and willingly and proactively assists co-workers. Assures work for each shift is completed prior to departure.
  • Maintains integrity of IVadmixture compounding area. Properly cleans and disinfects laminar flow cabinets, countertops, and equipment as required.
  • Maintains dispensing area and medication storeroom in a neat, orderly, and clean condition as observed by the pharmacist.
  • The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:
  • Assists with the continuous improvement of the new employee training orientation program.
  • Assists in maintaining proper inventory and control of drugs and supplies purchased by the Pharmacy.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to use current equipment including compounding pumps, printers, computers, fax machines, telephones, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or successful completion of general educational development GED exam required.
  • Enrollment in a PharmD degree program, at an accredited school of pharmacy, required within three 3 years of hire placement.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.
  • Current enrollment in a PharmD degree program at an accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Completion of ASHP accredited or comparable pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • Previous sterile admixture pharmacy practice experience preferred.

  • The position requires the ability to attend to more than one aspect of a situation simultaneously. It is highly likely that multiple task demands are going to be required of the individual at the same time.
  • New Learning and Memory: The following level of ability is essential for the jobholder to learn and retain material.
  • The position requires that an individual be able to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved instructions is mandatory.
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Creative Thinking: The following level of ability that is essential for the jobholder to think in order to solve a problem by combining two or more elements from past experience or imaginative thought.
  • The position deals with issues or problems that often require thoughtful reasoning before arriving at approaches or solutions. Some independent thought, planning or origination of options and solutions is necessary. The individual must have the ability to apply principles of reasoning and problem solving to resolve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The following are essential requirements of the position in relation to job-worker situations. These items describe how a worker must adapt, adjust, conform or act.
  • Repetitive work: Ability to continuously perform the same type of work for extended periods of time, according to set procedures, sequence or pace.
  • Performing under stressful conditions: Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual, or dangerous situations, or in situations in which working speed and sustained attention are critical aspects of the job. Is subject to danger or risk, or to tension as a regular, consistent part of the job.
  • Variety and change: Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure involving significant differences in technologies, techniques, procedures, environmental factors, physical demands, or work situations.
  • Communication: Ability to exchange information with others clearly and concisely; to present ideas, facts and technical information.
  • Interpersonal relations: Ability to maintain relationships that facilitate task accomplishment; to cooperate and resolve conflicts; to recognize needs and be sensitive of others.

Credentials:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
