What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hearing and Vision Technician position at People Matters?
BEDHD is seeking a Hearing and Vision Technician to work 32 hours per week. This position is based in either our Charlotte, Michigan office, covering both Eaton and Barry counties. In this role you will be part of a dynamic team and enjoy a well-supported work environment where your work will make a difference to improve community health.
The Hearing and Vision Technician will administer vision and hearing tests to school and preschool children as well as county residents, including but not limited to:
- Tests individuals for vision and hearing levels employing manual and automated testing equipment and devices.
- Maintains individual student/child/client records for kindergarten entry, health department, and school files, including testing summaries for schools and state and local health departments.
- Refers children who are in need of support and follows up on those referrals.
- Follows-up on failures in both hearing and vision including contacts with, teachers, principals, doctors, and other health care professionals
- Records all diagnostic findings on the appropriate form and patient records. Enters data to the computer system. Completes and submits reports on screenings, referrals, and follows up.
- Organizes screenings at schools, pre-schools, round-up and clinics throughout the county, keeping accurate records of all testing related activities.
- Performs hearing screening on infants not tested at a hospital.
- Responds to inquiries of teachers, therapists, socials workers and parents regarding the results of tests.
Ideal Candidates will possess:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Coursework in child development, preferred
- Experience working with children of all ages, similar to a school setting is desired
- Ability to enter and retrieve data; Use Microsoft office software products.
- Ability to travel for business using own vehicle or independent transportation to work-sites throughout the District
- Knowledge and efficient use of Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to complete a training program and certification as a Hearing and Vision Technician. Attends annual recertification.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment for the hearing and vision tests.
