Recovery Support Specialist-Peer Support

Scope of Service: Provides recovery support services and serves as a consumer advocate to support clients to live independently in the community. Assists Clients in setting and pursuing their recovery goals. Monitors and quantifies their progress leading by example when it comes to coping strategies that have been helpful in their own recovery. As identified, provides hands on instruction with activities of daily living and life-skill coaching as required by the individual. Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Client Care

-Establishes rapport and working relationship with assigned clients.

-Provides as a mentor, an invaluable role in the life of a person who is newly attempting to create build upon skills deficits in a significant way.

-Provides face-to-face hands-on supportive assistance enabling clients to maintain living in the community.

-Promotes individual’s strengths and abilities to improve socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, development of natural supports ,and maintenance of community living skills.

-Provides supportive companionship and problem- solving-oriented discussions.

-Supports clients to engage in routine medical and dental appointments and personal business.

- Assists client to access resources, travel planning and transportation efforts.

-Support clients to achieve aspirations and goals.

Minimum Requirements:

-Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an Associate’s Degree in a related field plus 2years of direct service experience.

-Certification: Certified as a Recovery Specialist through Advocacy Unlimited (AU) or Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR).

- Reliable transportation and ability to transport clients in own car.

-Must have a clean driving record, up to date motor vehicle insurance and driver’s license.

-Willingness to meet with people in all manner of life circumstances.
