Position effective August 8, 2023Perkins Local School DistrictFood Service Supervisor Job DescriptionQualificationsSee the attached list of Federal qualifications for the Food Service Supervisor.The Food Service Supervisor reports to the Superintendent of Schools or designee.General Function and ScopeThe District Food Service Supervisor will oversee all aspects of the district food service operation. The job functions include administering, planning, directing, assessing, implementing, and evaluating the program and personnel in order to meet the federal, state, and local guidelines.Essential Functional Areas of ResponsibilitiesGeneral ManagementEmploys management techniques to maintain an effective and efficient program.Implements policies and procedures to ensure effective operations while following Board of Education policies.Continually reviews the operation of all kitchens with staff to improve operations.Meets regularly with lunchroom managers to review all operations of the kitchens.Consults with building principals concerning problems pertinent to the building cafeteria.Understands commercial food service and quantity purchasingComputer TechnologyImplements management information systems that increase the productivity and efficiency of the school food and nutrition operation.Trains staff to use computer technology in individual school sites to improve management techniques.Learns all software as necessary.Program AccountabilityEnsures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.Administers the National School Free and Reduced Lunch Program.Provides technical assistance and training for school food service personnel, school administrators, and other school support staff.Maintains all records, including data bases, accurately.Maintains accurate accounting and auditing records for the treasurer.Submits monthly claims for federal and state reimbursement.Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and policies.Nutrition and Menu PlanningDevelops cost-effective menus that meet all state, and federal regulations.Seeks out new products, procedures, and creative ideas for continuous improvement of the school nutrition program.Assesses customer preferences and integrates in menu planning when possible.Establishes pricing of meals and a la carte.Food ProductionUnderstands health, safety and sanitation laws relating to commercial food service.Understands commercial food service and quantity purchasing.Ensures operational procedures for efficient and effective food production and distribution in compliance with federal regulations.ProcurementRequests quotes for all food, supplies, and equipment to assure best pricing in compliance with regulations.Ensures compliance with standards for receiving storing, and inventorying food and non-food supplies based on sound principles of management.Determines equipment needs and specifications consistent with program needs and budget.Personnel Attends all trainings to keep current and meet district and federal guidelines.Provides training opportunities for staff to meet district, state, and federal regulations and laws as well as monitors staff compliance.Hires, trains, and evaluates personnel.Understands the negotiated OAPSE agreement and maintains the employee handbook.Arranges for substitutes for all employees in the food service department.OtherMaintains the highest ethical integrity and confidentiality.Communicates and works cooperatively with staff, students, and members of the community.Meets all federal, state, and local guidelines at all times.Makes all recommendations to the superintendent on all matters relating to improving organization and management of food service.Completes any other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee.
Salary : $25,600 - $32,400
