Scientist - Translational Pathology Biomarker Testing
Summary:
The Translational Pathology Biomarker Testing Laboratory (TPBTL) within Pfizer’s Translational Sciences organization is seeking a highly motivated, multidisciplinary, scientist, to assist with the development, implementation, and execution of biomarker testing for Pfizers’s drug programs that have progressed to early phase clinical development.
This position will primarily support immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) assay development and clinical testing in our CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory. This includes performing and documenting standardized experiments and assisting with specimen accessioning, testing, imaging, data analysis, quality control, report writing, and other tasks, as needed.
In addition, this position will be responsible for general laboratory operational tasks such as maintaining laboratory equipment, ordering, and inventory management. The scientist will work in a dynamic, cross functional team that includes pathologists, program managers, clinical technicians, data management, quality, regulatory, and management. Candidate must possess a commitment to excellence and quality for patients.
Responsibilities:
- Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in situ hybridization (ISH) assay development, and validation. Experience in multiplexing and/or fluorescent IHC, a plus
- Daily use of microscopes and imaging systems including commercial image analysis software packages
- With guidance as needed, independently plan and execute laboratory experiments, collect data, and communicate and present results to internal teams
- In-depth hands-on experience in other molecular and genetic techniques and technologies is a plus
- Maintains current and broad knowledge in Molecular & Cellular Biology, Cancer Biology, and Pathology
- Collect, analyze, and synthesize data into presentations, posters, and reports
- Assist in writing, following, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures
- Works in a regulated environment associated with maintaining a high performing CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining reagents and supplies, instrument maintenance, and general lab duties

Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. and a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience OR; M.S. and 0-2 years in a biological science-related field
- Experience working in a laboratory setting
- Ability to follow and execute standard operating procedures
- Excellent written/oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with molecular biology and/or histology techniques
- Experience working in a regulated clinical laboratory, CLIA and/or CAP environment is strongly preferred
- Knowledge in cancer biology, immunology, or histopathology
- Use of microscopes, imaging systems, image analysis software
- Experience in multiplexing and/or fluorescent IHC, a plus
- Assay development using automated platforms
- Data management, data analysis, and statistical software packages.
