Position Overview

As a  Cloud Software Engineer or a Junior Cloud Software Engineer, you will support the development, enhancement, and reliability of Pharos’ cloud-based technology solutions. This role is open to both recent graduates and early-career engineers with up to three years of professional experience who are eager to grow their skills in a collaborative environment. You will work closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional team members to help design and implement technical solutions that meet business and customer needs. By staying current with industry trends and maintaining a strong learning mindset, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of existing products while helping prepare for future innovation. A thoughtful, proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to quality will be essential to your success in this role.
 
Location:  Auckland New Zealand Office-  In Person - Newmarket
 
Salary: NZ$65,000 - NZ$80,000 annually, plus up to 5% annual bonus, based on experience.  
 
Key Responsibilities

Feature Development: 

  • Assist in developing new features with guidance and mentorship from Senior Developers. 

  • Collaborate with the team to design and implement technical solutions that meet business requirements. 

Automated Testing: 

  • Write and maintain comprehensive automated tests, including unit and integration tests, to ensure robust functionality and prevent regressions. 

Code Reviews: 

  • Participate actively in code reviews, both as a contributor and reviewer. 

  • Incorporate feedback from reviews to continuously improve coding practices and maintain high code quality. 

Progress Updates and Collaboration: 

  • Provide regular updates on progress and collaborate effectively with team members to meet project deadlines and sprint goals. 

Feature Support: 

  • Support existing features by identifying, debugging, and resolving issues as they arise. 

 Technical Solutions: 

  • Develop and propose well-defined technical solutions in alignment with business goals and technical standards. 

Documentation: 

  • Prepare clear and comprehensive product documentation and support materials to aid in the efficient usage and maintenance of the product. 

Quality and Standards: 

  • Ensure adherence to quality and technical standards in all aspects of development. 

  • Make informed design decisions, considering their impact on maintainability, security, performance, and scalability. 

Research and Innovation: 

  • Conduct research on emerging technologies relevant to the product. 

  • Propose potential integrations or refactoring opportunities to improve the product and its development process. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • Education: At least two years of post-secondary education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 

  • Experience: Less than four years of professional experience in software development, ideally with exposure to cloud platforms and backend development. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Programming Languages: Passion for programming and a demonstrated  proficiency in at least one high-level language. Experience in C# and JavaScript desirable. 

  • Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with Agile practices and methodologies. 

  • Unit Testing: Some exposure to writing unit tests. 

  • Cloud Platforms: Have some knowledge of cloud development (AWS, Azure of Google Cloud) desirable. 

  • Database Management: Some experience with datastore structure and querying. 

  • macOS experience: Experience with macOS development is a plus.
