Job Summary:
The Protective Services Investigator plays a critical role in safeguarding older adults, conducting thorough investigations into allegations of elder abuse, neglect, abandonment, and financial exploitation. The Investigator evaluates the medical, social, and psychological needs of seniors and provides vital services aimed at reducing or eliminating risks associated with various forms of abuse. Qualifications:
- One year of experience in aging services, care/case management, or assessment.
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, behavioral sciences, human services, or a related field.
Work Location:
Hybrid (combination of in-office and remote work)
Additional Requirements:
- Pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Satisfactory criminal background clearance
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a fully insured vehicle
- Ability to transport clients when necessary
- Paid evening and weekend on-call duties on a rotating schedule
- Availability by cell phone during scheduled working hours
- Completion of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s Older Adult Protective Services training
- Adherence to the Pennsylvania Department of Aging's Confidentiality Statement
- Compliance with all agency and departmental policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations into reports of elder abuse, neglect, financial exploitation, and abandonment, ensuring compliance with agency and state standards.
- Evaluate and assess the needs of older adults to determine whether abuse or neglect is substantiated, making referrals to appropriate services as necessary.
- Develop and implement care plans for older adults, including collaboration with family members, friends, and service providers.
- Provide ongoing case management services, ensuring that vulnerable adults receive the protective services they need.
- Document all case activities in accordance with state regulations and agency policies, ensuring accurate and timely records.
- Assist in emergency interventions such as mental health commitments or protection from abuse orders, when required.
- Testify in court and accompany law enforcement to enforce court orders related to protective services cases.
- Work closely with public service providers, mental health professionals, law enforcement, and other community organizations to coordinate care.
- Facilitate case conferences and mobilize resources to meet the needs of clients, ensuring the best possible outcomes for those at risk.
- Maintain regular supervision meetings to enhance professional development and job performance.
- Engage in public outreach and educational efforts to raise awareness about elder abuse prevention.
- Identify service gaps and advocate for improved service delivery to older adults.
