Summary of Job

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is seeking an Assistant Director of the DAO’s CARES Unit to aid the Director of CARES with administrative, fiscal, operational oversight to the program and supervision of staff.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is seeking an Assistant Director of the DAO’s CARES Unit to aid the Director of CARES with administrative, fiscal, operational oversight to the program and supervision of staff.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervising a team of Peer Crisis Responders. This includes:
- Establishing agreed upon and clearly defined methods for PCRs to capture time, document work and collect data for PCR’s work. (CARES Program Coordinator will collaborate with IT and data teams of the DAO to develop accessible tools to accomplish this.)
- Working with DAO Human Resources and Administration to ensure that CARES team has internal HR support since Peer Crisis Responders are not physically stationed in the office on a daily basis.
- Addressing training needs of the CARES team.
- Providing ongoing team support and supervision meetings.
- Developing protocols for case management efforts and processes, such as referrals to community partners.
- Working with CARES Director/Supervisor and DAO grants administrator to ensure compliance with grant guidelines. Assistant Director will also assist with reporting out on CARES activities.
- Developing and strengthening internal and external partnerships to create and develop resources to address the needs of families experiencing homicide. Assistant Program will participate in meetings with representatives from the Philadelphia Police Department, Medical Examiner’s Office and other community organizations and survivor led programs.
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by CARES Director/Supervisor.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of experience managing crime victims’ services or other human service programs
- Lived-experience as a survivor or co-survivor of homicide and/or non-fatal shooting is preferred. Lived experience of coping with the challenges, stressors, and trauma of losing a loved one to homicide.
- Familiar with Philadelphia’s crime victims’ service system and other human and social service systems in Philadelphia.
- Extensive knowledge and practice of peer support and self-help strategies of trauma informed crisis response.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills, with an ability to interact comfortably with diverse groups.
- Ability to supervise and manage multiple Peer Crisis Responders.
- Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Strong strategic decision-making skills.
- Bilingual or multi-lingual skills, is a plus.
- Must be open, flexible, and willing to collaborate with internal and external partners.
- Some evening and weekend work required. Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s Applications will be active for one year from the date of receipt by the Office.
- Intermediate to expert ability with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Proven critical thinking skills and a willingness to learn.
- Organized, flexible and capable of working under pressure.
- Ability to develop and cultivate effective internal/external working relationships is essential.
- Understanding of the uniquely sensitive and confidential nature of the professional services provided by the Office.
