- Helps maintain classroom and campus safety and order by providing general supervision of students as identified based on need.
- Maintains alertness for problems likely to disrupt the educational process or to be a safety concern and works to correct and report these conditions.
- Provides assistance in the learning area in dealing with behavioral issues by applying crisis intervention to students with aggressive behavior and using CPI Techniques as needed.
- Serves as a floater to various learning areas to assist in maintaining appropriate behaviors; responds to all crisis calls, assesses the situation, and responds accordingly.
- Applies basic practices of effective behavioral management and assists in the teaching of problem-solving skills to students as prescribed by the supervising teacher, social worker, or administrator.
- Assists students as they arrive on buses taking them to and from learning areas and monitoring entrance conditions of individual students.
- Supports positive behavior program with campus team; assists in providing supervision and follow-up for students assigned to in-school suspension and/or work duty.
- Reinforces schoolwide expectations of the learning environment; acknowledges and encourages appropriate behavior and distinguishes inappropriate behavior for the student’s understanding.
- Escorts, supervises, and provides assistance to students during breakfast, lunch, restroom visits, and other activities.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of student activities and behavior which may require the use of a computer terminal to enter student information and data; completes applicable forms, schedules, and instructional reports, as directed.
- Assigned to monitoring duties, i.e., hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty; ensures appropriate student conduct during these periods; escorts students to designated activity areas.
- Assists the teacher in implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP) as appropriate.
- Assists with behavior management programs including monitoring and charting behaviors specific to individual behavior plans.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Experience in behavior management, de-escalation and working with students in behavior mitigation.
- 60 College Credit Hours or Paraprofessional Certification, or equivalent
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification within 90 days of employment.
- First Aid/CPR
- Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.
- Strong communication skills including the ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Requires the ability to assist persons in action or interaction by carrying out specialized therapeutic plans and procedures.
- Must be able to follow district guidelines to physically restrain a student if there is a need for the protection of staff or students.
- Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce and/or assess data and/or information and/or situations using discretion in determining actual or probable consequences, and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
- Able to effectively present information in a one-to-one and small group situation.
- Prior experience working with students with mental health care needs and/or emotional disabilities.
- Must be a team player and get along well with others.
- Must demonstrate an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information.
