What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Practitioner position at Physicians Dialysis?

Summary: Under the direction of the Medical Director and Co-Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner will ensure the health care of patients under the continuous supervision of a qualified physician. The nurse practitioner is an experienced nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within general practice.  They work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of the patients.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

To manage clinical patient load, dealing with presenting patient’s needs in the dialysis clinic setting, home dialysis setting and nursing home/rehabilitation setting.

 

Deliver a high standard of patient care as Nurse Practitioner in general practice, using advanced autonomous clinical skills and a broad and in-depth theoretical knowledge base.

 

Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualized patient care.

 

To prescribe safe, effective and appropriate medication as defined by current legislative framework and scope of practice for the Florida Board of Nursing

 

Refer patients directly to other services/agencies as appropriate

 

Contribute to the practice achieving its quality targets to sustain the high standards of care and patient services

 

Help develop and set up new patient services, i.e. pre ESRD education program, and participate in initiatives to improve new and existing patient services

 

Promote health and well-being through the use of health promotion, health education, screening

 

 

Lead the nursing team and ensure the highest standards of care are provided for the dialysis and pre-ESRD patients.

 

Work closely with the Director of Nursing in the care of the hemodialysis and home dialysis patients in the outpatient dialysis center as well as the various home dialysis settings

Education and/or Experience: The Nurse Practitioner must be a licensed nurse practitioner in the State of Florida. The Nurse Practitioner must hold a Master’s Degree and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing.

 

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general medical/business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, patients and staff.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain a current license in the State of Florida as a NP. Current CPR certification is preferred.

 

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with all levels of medical personnel.

 

Ability to effectively relate with patients, families and healthcare team members.

Since this is a healthcare environment, there is the possibility of exposure in infectious/contagious diseases, hazardous chemical and materials, needlesticks, and blood and body fluids. Further information regarding this position’s specific work environment and exposure category will be provided during orientation. This position is classified as an OSHA category I.
