    SUMMARY:
    Assist the Band Director to organize an direct the marching and concert bands, providing instruction and leadership to develop a high quality performing organization.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
    Participate in summer band camp prior to the beginning of the school year.
    Assist the band director during full band rehearsals.
    Conduct section rehearsals as needed.
    Assist the Band Director in the instruction of basic field commands and maneuvers.
    Assist in the instruction and coordination of marching and maneuvering with musical performance.
    Assist in the design, development and direction of the pre-game show, various half-time shows and parades.
    Attend after-school rehearsals during football season.
    Attend football games and other performances with the band throughout the marching season.
    Fulfill appropriate duties as directed by the Band Director.
    Supervise students during practice and performances.
    Supervise equipment and student instruments.
    Attend district, regional and state festivals.
    Maintain student discipline in accordance with the student Code of Conduct.
    Maintain two-way communications with parents of participants as needed.
    Prepare and submit end-of-year summary to the high school principal.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supervises students participating in this program. Directs activities of any program volunteers.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Experience in or knowledge of this program or activity is desirable. Current criminal record and child abuse clearances required.

    CONFIDENTIALITY:
    The sponsor must respect student and family rights to privacy and agree not to publicly share in a negative manner details of a student’s academic abilities or performance in this activity.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating or procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, their parents or employees of the district. Ability to communicate in a positive way with members of the media.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to guide appropriate record keeping of student accounts related to program.

    COMPUTER SKILLS:
    Basic computer skills in word processing and database are helpful.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and stand. Occasionally the employee will sit and may run. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee may also frequently squat, stoop kneel reach above the head, reach forward and repeat the same hand motion many times while performing the duties of the job. Moderate lifting of equipment weighing between 10-50 pounds may be necessary.

    The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception and occasionally being able to see objects/persons at a distance. While performing the duties of the job the employee frequently is required to hear conversation in a quiet as well as a noisy environment and be able to tell where a sound is coming from. The employee must be able to communicate to the students in order to give directions.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continuously work inside or outside depending on the event. Occasionally the employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety, and well-being of the students. The noise level will vary from quiet to loud.
