SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 4:00pm-12:30am, with some flexibility needed for meetings with staff, neighborhood meetings, and emergency calls. On-call rotation required.

Pays $29.55 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

Pine Street Inn Supportive Housing provides comprehensive residential, case management, and clinical support services to Supportive Housing tenants. The residential services team provides supportive services to tenants in housing helping tenants achieve their highest level of self-sufficiency, through tenant engagement and intervention in the evening and overnight shifts, and in coordination with the Case Management teams who operate in the day.

The Residential Program Supervisor directly supervises a residential team of Evening and Overnight Residential Counselors and House Managers. The Residential Program Supervisor will coordinate staff coverage for the Mobile Evening Counselors in their portfolio and is responsible for program content including the implementation of effective best practices (Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, and Trauma Informed Care) and ensures the provision of high quality supports on a 24/7 basis. This will involve hiring, evaluation, training and support of supervisees; ensuring compliance with licensing and legal requirements; and communicating key objectives to staff and ensuring compliance with the same.

The Residential Program Supervisor will monitor and ensure staff compliance with training, safety, mediate issues with tenants, and coordinate the work of this team with the PSI Supportive Housing Case Management, Property Management and Facilities departments, as well as other PSI Departments. The incumbent also provides leadership in crisis situations, will carry a cell phone, and will participate in responding to emergency calls in an on-call rotating schedule. The Residential Program Supervisor will be self-motivated, with solid communications skills, capable of creating policies, procedures and plans in coordination with their peer Residential Supervisors and the Associate Director of Residential Services. This position requires a great deal of tact, diplomacy and creative problem solving in order to maintain our positive working relationship with our neighbors.

  • Please note - All credentials and licensures will be reviewed annually as part of the PSI credentialing process. Additionally an annual CORI review will be conducted for the Supervisor. Acceptable results of annual credentialing and CORI reviews will be required of the Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or GED

PREFERRED:

  • Training in Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change model
  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to harm reduction philosophy, principles and practices
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of five (5) years direct care experience providing services, including assessment and service planning, to adults living in the community with mental illness and/or addictive disorders
  • Prior experience working with homeless individuals and/or supportive housing

PREFERRED:

  • Two (2) years supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of landlord/tenant procedures, and/or subsidized housing programs
  • Experience working with chronically homeless, medically vulnerable individuals, with tri-morbidities (mental illness, substance abuse, medically compromised)
  • Familiarity with and commitment to Housing First as a model of permanent, supported, affordable housing
  • Experience with Trauma-Informed Care

PHYSICAL ABILITIES/SKILLS:

  • Ability to lift heavy objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to work at a computer for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in a crisis situation
  • Ability to travel throughout Boston and Brookline via public transportation or personal vehicle

  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to use of Outlook, management information systems or database programs
  • Highly developed professional ethics to maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to work with legal representatives and testify on behalf of PSI in court proceedings

SUPERVISOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Contributes to the overall integration and success of the department by being a team player, accepting and offering guidance as appropriate, participating in PSI activities and trainings as requested and promoting organizational integration based on the mission, vision and values. Responsible for the overall program administrative of a mobile and stationary residential support team.
  • Monitor that all tenants are functioning at their highest possible level of self-sufficiency. Observe all policies and procedures related to the health and safety of the tenants.
  • Have regularly scheduled meetings with all staff to provide supervision and support. Participate in supporting the Associate Director in any upcoming audits and/or inspections.
  • Monitor staff compliance with all policies contained in the Employee Handbook, job descriptions, TB Screening and OSHA requirements and training attendance. Evaluate performance, monitor and address any areas which are not up to acceptable standards. Complete annual performance evaluations on all staff in the department. Oversee correction of any deficient areas.
  • Mediate disputes with and between tenants. Investigate and follow-up tenant grievances in partnership with the Case Management Supervisor. Assess and respond to emergency situations. Complete incident reports as needed. Report maintenance emergencies as well as routine maintenance needs through the PSI Facilities department.
  • Communicate with tenants that are not complying with their occupancy agreement and/or house rules. Help staff to set appropriate limits, while making every effort to assist tenants in retaining their housing. Be available to provide assistance and consultation in all matters relating to tenancy.
  • Work cooperatively with the Pine Street Inn Facilities team to assure that our buildings and grounds are safe and up to tenant, City and Subsidy provider’s code.
  • Uphold the rights of all tenants. Be continually aware of these rights and act in accordance with these rights. Interact with tenants in ways which establish a climate of respect for human dignity.
  • Represent Pine Street Inn and the housing department in a professional manner in all contacts with neighbors and representatives of other agencies. Be aware of and responsive to the concerns of the communities in which this housing is located. Be proactive in taking the opportunity to talk with neighbors. Document and report any such contacts. Coach attending staff in appropriate behavior and expectations while at community meetings. Provide proper supervision and follow up with tenants regarding their behavior in our host communities.
  • Provide clear, concise and relevant documentation for all meetings and encounters with tenants, staff, and with other agencies.
  • Work cooperatively with representatives of all PSI departments, including but not limited to Facilities, Property Management, Development and External Affairs, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and other trainings that will enhance ability to assist tenants in maintaining and enhancing their quality of life, provide effective supervision of staff and encourage professional self-development.
  • Participate in collaborative networking with PSI programs to share knowledge and experience and to ensure consistent policies and procedures. Serve as a liaison with external organizations relevant to the work of this program, including Volunteer Groups.
  • Due to emergency or unforeseen program needs, staff may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another PSI Housing program at any given time.
  • Be available to Represent PSI and the Supportive Housing Department in the Housing and Criminal Court system.
  • Assist tenants as required for bed bug remediation as outline by PSI Bed Bug Policy.
  • Assist with emergency housekeeping as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Comply with and model compliance with all PSI policies, including illness prevention and occupational health policies.
  • Accept other duties or work locations as assigned in order to meet the needs of the organization during weather or other emergencies.
