Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) must be flexible as the position involves providing coverage for every area of the clinic. This position is the most diverse and may require covering more than one position on any given day. Employee provides skilled nursing services to patients under the direction of a professional medical doctor, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant, and provides a variety of related services to maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. The functions of the Registered Nurse Float are to collect patient health data, analyze the data to determine diagnoses, identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient, develop a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain the expected outcomes, implement the interventions identified in the plan of care, and evaluate the patient’s progress toward attainment of the outcomes, working collaboratively with the healthcare team. Performs professional nursing work of considerable difficulty including the care of patients as outlined by physicians and the objectives and policies of the organization.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Works within scope of license, develop and implement nursing plan of care for patients. Communicate the plan of care to patients as prescribed by physician: test results, scheduling of specialized tests and treatment modalities, prescription drug instructions and other patient education including procedures and/or disease processes.
- Obtains, reviews, verifies and/or complete health care forms related to home health care, referrals, medical equipment and other patient/physician needs as appropriate. .
- Help maintain patient flow and workflow. Work collaboratively as a team member of the clinic staff to provide a high quality and efficient service to patients and clinic.
- Recognizes patient rights and provides for confidentiality of patient information and for dignity through own performance and in relationship with others.
- Observes patients and reports changes in patients' conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and takes any necessary action.
- Measures and records patients' vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration.
- Maintains patient areas and working spaces in a clean, neat and orderly manner. Monitors use of supplies/medications; restocks as necessary and informs appropriate persons of needs for additional supplies.
- Performs other related duties as required.
