Description
SUMMARY
The Financial Counselor is responsible for providing quality and efficient customer service to our patients and providers. The Financial Counselor will collect on balances, inform and educate patients on balances, and present pre-surgery quotes.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Prepares pre-surgery quotes and reviewing with the patient in person and/or over the telephone
2. Collects co-pays and/or upfront cost indicated by patient’s insurance carrier
3. Handles patient phone calls or in-person requests which include:
a. Resolving patient requests
b. Answering billing questions
c. Accepting payments by phone or in person
d. Establishing payment plans
e. Other reasonable requests
f. Contacts patients to collect on unpaid balances
g. Assisting Medicaid eligibility by working with both the patient & Social Services
h. Educates patients on their overall financial responsibility
i. Assists patients as needed in setting up payment plans
j. Completes Financial Counselor Report daily
k. Other duties as assigned
Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience in a clerical position preferred
2. High school diploma or equivalent
3. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans is beneficial
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry systems
5. Knowledge and understanding of billing and payment procedures as well as rules and regulations of
contractual and non-contractual insurance carriers
6. Ability and understanding of how to use ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding books and or applications
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
8. Ability to multitask and maintain strong attention to detail
9. Ability to speak clearly and concisely
