What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Guide (Teacher) position at Pinewoods Montessori School?
Pinewoods Montessori School (PWMS) seeks caring childcare and education professionals to join our team as Assistant Guides (Teachers). The Assistant Guide assists the classroom Lead Guide in challenging and supporting each child in reaching their fullest intellectual, social/emotional, and physical potential in a prepared Montessori environment.
While previous experience in Montessori education is valued, it is not required for Assistant Guides. We have resources to support and mentor new faculty in the understanding and practice of Montessori pedagogical principles. All that is needed is a desire and commitment to personal and professional growth.
The role of the Assistant Guide is dynamic and rewarding, as each day brings new opportunities to learn and support children in new ways in their developmental journeys. While the responsibilities are broad, the following are some specific qualifications and responsibilities needed for this position:
- Model integrity, curiosity, responsibility, creativity, respect and kindness for all persons as well as an appreciation for racial, cultural, and gender issues and diversity and establishing positive relationships with students.
- Create and maintain a supportive and collaborative partnership with PWMS colleagues.
- Respect professional confidentiality for families, children and employees.
- Follow all PWMS policies and procedures.
- Assist and support the work of the Lead Guide in the general care of the Montessori environment.
- Report supplies requests to the Office Manager.
- Take on the role of “tone-keeper” while the Lead Guide is giving lessons.
- Assist the Lead Guide with executing lessons, daily classroom activities, as requested.
- Assist the Lead and Assistant Guides with maintaining current attendance and accurate academic records, as requested.
- Share the responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of the children at all times, including maintaining appropriate and adequate supervision of children at all times (indoors and outside).
- Participate in one’s own professional development and support that of one’s colleagues..
- Assist the Lead Guide with execution of fire drills and other emergency procedures.
Physical requirements may include:
- The ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Hand dexterity.
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Walking between transitions and playground monitoring.
- Ability to sit on the floor and transitioning from sitting to standing throughout the day.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
