JOB TITLE: Staff Development Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Nursing
RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Nursing / Clinical Nurse Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education
Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
Licensure
Current R.N. licensure in State of Minnesota- Is Certified in or willing to be Certified in Infection Control within 6 months
C. Knowledge and Experience
1. Knowledge of geriatric nursing home and assisted living memory care policy and procedure.
- Knowledge and skill in researching, organizing, and delivery of pertinent education material.
- Ability to effectively express self verbally to groups and other employees. Ability to effectively express self in writing documentation, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to teach and stimulate desire for learning by others.
JOB SUMMARY:
Directs, develops, and provides continuing education programs for all departments of the organization. Also provides basic education to all new employees and volunteers to the organization. Conducts orientation and tours for all nursing students rotating through Pioneer Care Campus. Reviews all emergency and disaster programs and updates them as necessary.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Major Responsibilities
Orientations
a. Conducts general orientation sessions for all new employees, volunteers, and students performing clinicals in the organization. Familiarizing them with the facility’s physical plan, philosophy, general policies and procedures, key personnel and their departments, special services, safety and emergency plans.
Develops, coordinates and/or conducts orientation to job specific tasks in the nursing department. Assists other departments in developing specific job orientation programs as related to nursing home policies defined by MN state.
Inservice Education
Plans and implements a continuing education program designed to meet the needs of employees and departments as needed.
Develops, maintains, and utilizes records and reports pertinent to staff development/education program.
Evaluates results of the total staff development program effort, as well as specific learning sessions.
Serves as resource person for all personnel and supplies appropriate information for learning and education.
Keeps attendance, content summary, dates and time records of staff in-services.
Organizes, implements, and evaluates safety and disaster plans and drills.
Provide education to staff for OSHA required topics.
Maintains A-V Library for staff use.
Continuing Education
Researches and recommends educational functions for staff sponsored by other agencies and arranges for appropriate employees to attend.
4. Special Demands Unique to This Position
May write new policies and procedures for new programs or procedures.
Develops and participates in an on-going education program for self to gain knowledge and understanding of current procedures, practices and techniques as they relate to specific responsibilities of this position.
Rotates weekends and holiday “on-call” for supervision
Is a member of and attends various committees as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
This position required intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting and supporting residents.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This position will be scheduled on a normal business hours work week with on call as necessary.
