ABOUT PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE (PBT): Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre has been the region’s premier professional ballet company since 1969. Today, PBT is a nationally recognized ballet company of 30 professional dancers, a training institution for over 1,300 students of all ages, and an incubator for dance education and accessibility programs in classrooms, libraries and community centers throughout the region. The company performs a wide-ranging repertoire of classical ballets, contemporary masterworks and new commissions in more than 50 performances annually in theaters, across the region and on tour. WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School (PBT School) Intensive Summer Program (ISP) is a five-week summer program for approximately 225 ballet students age 12-22 from across the country and abroad. Each year, approximately 140 out-of-town students are housed in the Chatham University dormitories. PBT School seeks six Live-In RAs for Fickes and Woodland Halls for the duration of this program. RAs will be on-duty while the students are on campus and participate in an on-call rotation when they are at the studio. Each RA will have one day off per week.

DUTIES:
Under the direction of the manager of residential programs and lead RA, you will provide supervision for the residents within Fickes and Woodland Halls. The RA is a vital link between his/her residents, the PBT School Office and university staff. RA responsibilities include: helping to develop a sense of community; leading social events and activities; enforcing PBT School, University, and residence hall policies; communicating with parents; mediating issues with roommates, resolving competitiveness and homesickness; and taking the lead in crisis situations.
Specific Job Skills and Expectations:

Specific Job Skills and Expectations:
- To provide assistance, support, and leadership to individual students and student groups in the residence halls
- To foster interpersonal skills, appreciation of individual differences, and responsibility within the community environment among resident students
- To clearly communicate and consistently enforce policies within the residence halls
- To ensure residence halls are appealing and safe places to live
- To serve as chaperone during off-campus excursions
- To plan and execute on-campus activities for residents
- RAs are expected to be visible and available to their residents on a consistent basis during the hours stated above
- The RA Staff is responsible for sharing in nightly duty coverage of the building on a rotating schedule. The RA on duty is required to remain in the residence hall.
- RAs report directly to the manager of residential programs.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Abide by and consistently enforce all PBT, University, Residence Life policies, and state laws
- Assist the custodial staff in keeping hall facilities functional for the use of all residents
- Investigate and report room, hall, and public area damage
- Assist with reports as required.
- Make referrals to PBT School Director of Operations in disciplinary matters
- Attend and actively participate in all meetings
- Be thoroughly familiar with all emergency procedures.
- Perform other administrative duties and expectations as directed by PBT School Director of Operations
Compensation and Benefits:
- Will receive a $500 per week stipend for the duration of the five-week program
- Will receive a private room at no cost
- Meals included: Breakfast and dinner, Mon-Sat; Sundays, brunch only. Lunch will be available at PBT Studios Mon-Sat
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements include lifting boxes and materials (20 lb limit), writing, typing, talking on the phone, walking, standing and sitting.
Other requirements and competencies:
Operation requirements include the ability to drive a 14-passenger van, work on a computer, and operate and speak on a telephone.
Experience working with adolescents in a residential or camp setting is strongly preferred.
