PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Lexington, KY 40536 (Kentucky nursing jobs)
• Healthcare Setting: Acute Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Level 1/2 Trauma Center
• Employment Type: Locum Tenens, Travel Nursing Contract
• Start Date: September 9, 2025
• End Date: December 16, 2025
• Contract Duration: 14 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (19:00 – 07:30), 3 shifts per week
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2020 - $2070 per week
• Patient Population: Adult patients, average daily census: 32
  
  

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky or compact state (required at time of submission)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU, trauma, or general surgery post-op experience (Level 1 or 2 trauma experience required)
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (TNCC preferred)
• Proficiency in abdominal surgeries, tracheostomies, surgical drains, wound vacs, ostomy, ports, PICCs, TPN, and lipids
• Strong clinical skills in foley catheter management, surgical oncology, and post-operative care
• Ability to float within hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Two recent manager or supervisor references (within last 6 months)
• Local travelers within 75 miles are not eligible
  
  

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to post-operative trauma and general surgery patients in a fast-paced PCU environment
• Monitor and manage patients with abdominal surgeries, tracheostomies, surgical drains, wound vacs, ostomies, ports, and PICCs
• Administer TPN, lipids, and blood products as needed
• Interpret and manage cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, and social services
• Participate in rapid response teams and escalate care promptly
• Accurately document all patient care activities in the electronic health record
• Float to other nursing units or affiliate hospitals as required
