What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Video Producer position at Politico?
POLITICO is seeking a video journalist with a strong track record in visual storytelling to work on a specialized video team, focusing on vertical videos. This job requires strong journalistic instincts and a talent for identifying unique and captivating ways to use video to tell stories off-platform. The ability to write and edit sharp headlines, scripts and videos with style and humor while maintaining accuracy is a must.
This is a contract position running through July 28, 2023, that starts immediately and has a competitive salary. If you’re interested, please apply ASAP. You will work alongside a video producer to create 5-7 videos a week and your daily workflow will be overseen by a senior video producer.
What You’ll Do:
- Pitch creative ideas daily specifically for social media video
- Research, script and edit videos on tight deadlines
- Attend original studio and field shoots
- Work with reporters and editors across the newsroom to produce videos based off their reporting
- Develop understanding of social media platforms and their audience
What You’ll Need:
- At least 2 years’ experience in digital video production and editing
- A background producing and editing video in a fast-paced newsroom
- Ability to swiftly edit slick videos (2 minutes or more)
- Ability to shoot in studio, in the field and remotely, including shooting with a Cannon 5D IV. Familiarity with setting up/tearing down productions is also a plus.
- Adobe Premiere/Photoshop expertise are a must—After Effects also appreciated
- Experience with designing and laying in GFX/VFX is a huge plus
- You’ll need to love social video and have a clear grasp on what our audience on social wants and needs from POLITICO
- Appetite for national politics and understanding of how to make interview requests of government officials and political figures
- On-camera skills are a major plus
