OPERATOR/MIXER
An employee in this position operates an extrusion machine to produce plastic products in a plastics compounds and additive master batch manufacturing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment and complies with all safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment when required.
- Follows company quality policy guidelines as required by ISO 9001 standards.
- Assists with assembly of machine components, such as screws, dies, feeders, and classifiers, according to specifications, using hand tools and measuring devices.
- Weighs pelletized, granular, powdered, or liquid additives and thermoplastic resins and loads materials in machine hopper for mixing.
- Monitors machine operations and observes extruder settings (set points and actual values) to detect malfunctions.
- Adjusts machine components to regulate torque, RPM, head pressure, and temperature of machine, output rates against the input rates, and flow of materials.
- Examines, measures, and weighs materials to verify conformance to standards, using measuring devices and other analytical tools.
- Disassembles and cleans extruder and other auxiliary equipment in preparation for new production runs as part of clean-up process.
- Communicates with supervisors and peers, developing and maintaining cooperative and successful working relationships.
- Operates forklift and pallet jack for transferring material to warehouse.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent and three years on-the-job experience in a manufacturing environment.
Language Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing in English.
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to calculate figures and perform basic arithmetic computations accurately.
Computer Skills
- Basic computer software knowledge or ability to learn including ACCESS and
Excel.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Forklift certification
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Production and Processing: Knowledge of production processes and other techniques for the effective manufacture of goods.
- Operation Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Static Strength: Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry.
- Written Comprehension: The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
- Problem Sensitivity: Ability to assess that something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
- Physical Manipulation: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, climb, kneel, stand, pull, hear, balance, crouch, talk, stoop, reach, push, grasp, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee must exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee works indoors and has contact with others.
Safety Hazards of the Job
Exposure to hazardous equipment and extreme temperatures in plant atmosphere.
Appropriate personal protection equipment is required.
