Role Overview:
Pop Mart is seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Director of Compliance to lead and manage compliance efforts across its North American operations, including the United States and Canada. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, this role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local laws and regulations, overseeing licensing and permitting, managing corporate registrations, and leading occupational safety compliance. This role is critical in safeguarding the company’s operations and maintaining its reputation in the entertainment and retail sectors.
The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of compliance frameworks, exceptional organizational and leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across departments.
Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance (U.S. and Canada):
- Monitor, interpret, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state/provincial, and local regulations, including but not limited to EPA, FTC, CPSC, and state, Canadian, and provincial, equivalents.
- Manage and maintain all required business licenses, permits, sales tax registrations, and corporate filings across North American jurisdictions.
- Ensure compliance with labor regulations, including wage and hour laws, health and safety standards, and workplace posting requirements.
OSHA and Workplace Safety:
- Lead company-wide compliance with OSHA and other federal, state, or provincial equivalent regulations, including training, audits, and incident response.
- Oversee injury reporting procedures, employee safety programs, and hazard communication compliance.
- Collaborate with HR and facilities to ensure a safe working environment across all retail and office locations.
Licensing and Permitting:
- Manage and renew all operational licenses and permits at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Serve as the point of contact for external agencies during inspections, audits, or inquiries.
Corporate Registrations:
- Oversee and coordinate all corporate registrations, entity management, and annual report filings.
- Ensure legal entity compliance in collaboration with internal and external counsel.
Policy Implementation and Training:
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal compliance policies, SOPs, and employee training programs.
- Conduct compliance audits and assessments to identify gaps and ensure continuous improvement.
- Deliver training to internal departments on compliance and regulatory requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Risk Mitigation:
- Assist in the creation and implementation of policies including but not limited to, employee handbooks and operational SOPs.
- Proactively identify potential legal risks and offer solutions to prevent legal disputes and business interruptions.
- Work closely with legal, HR, finance, retail operations, and supply chain teams to ensure legal and regulatory alignment across business practices.
- Partner with product and marketing teams to address compliance issues related to advertising, product labeling, and consumer protection laws.
- Proactively identify legal and compliance risks and develop solutions to mitigate them.
- Maintain documentation and provide regular reporting on compliance status and developments to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in a compliance role, preferably within retail, entertainment, toys, or consumer products industries.
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements including but not limited to: U.S. and Canadian occupational health and safety laws (e.g., OSHA, CCOHS, WSIB, etc.)
- Licensing, sales tax, environmental, and labor regulations
- Corporate registrations and annual report filings across North American jurisdictions
- Experience with cross-border compliance (especially U.S., Canada, China, and Singapore).
- Strong project management and team leadership experience.
- Proven ability to create and implement policies and training programs.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Fluency in Mandarin is a plus.
Additional Information:
- Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Must have the ability to traverse short distances.
- Must be able to regularly lift 25lbs, and lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
