What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Service Technician position at Porter's Tire Store, Inc.?
Summary:
To provide responsible and professional skills to customers needing tire services.
Essential Duties:
Typical Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for greeting customers on front and sending them in to a sales manager.
- Responsible for repairing damaged tires of automobiles, buses, trucks and other automotive vehicles.
- Responsible for lifting customer vehicles with a hand jack, unbolting wheels with a lug wrench, and removing wheels carefully by hand.
- Responsible for locating puncture in tubeless tire by visual inspection or by immersing inflated tire in water bath and observing air bubbles emerging from puncture.
- Responsible for sealing puncture in tubeless tire by inserting adhesive material and expanding rubber plug into puncture, using hand tools.
- Responsible for separating tubed tire from wheel, using rubber mallet and metal bar or mechanical tire changer.
- Responsible for removing inner tube from tire and inspecting tire casing for defects, such as holes and tears. Glues boot (tire patch) over rupture in tire casing, using rubber cement. Inflating inner tube and immerses it in water to locate leak. Buffs defective area of inner tube using scrapper, and patches tube with adhesive rubber patch or seals rubber patch to tube, using a hot plate.
- Responsible for reassembling tire onto wheel, and placing wheel on balancing machine to determine counterweights required to balance wheel.
- Responsible for hammering required counterweights onto rim of wheel.
- Responsible for cleaning sides of white wall tires and remounting wheel onto vehicle.
- Responsible for rotating tires to different positions on vehicles and seeing to any other customer needs with the exception of tire sales and customer complaints.
- Responsible for the weekly cleaning of shop floor and shop equipment
- Responsible for the care of all tools and equipment, assuring everything goes back in its place.
Other Duties:
- Perform and other duties essential to the day to day operations of the business
- May be required to clean employee restroom on a time about schedule with other employees on location.
Requirements
Requirements (such as hours, accuracy, special equipment, and/or working conditions):
Proficiency and efficiency required in all phases of work. Will work 40 hours a week and overtime if asked. This job requires training in proper removal and installation of wheels and tires, operation of tire changers and balancing machines, and other related tire services. It requires some lifting of 65lbs or more. Work environment can be loud with machinery and air guns, and can also be smelly at times. Will be required to work mostly outdoors in all types of weather. Shop bays are used at some locations.
