Panther Athletics Head Women’s Basketball Coach
Portland Community College is accepting applicant materials for the position of Head Women’s Basketball Coach. This part-time head coaching position reports to the Director of Panther Athletics and works to ensure compliance with all Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) codes, policies and procedures www.nwacsports.com. The Panther Athletics program is seeking a coach with collegiate or relevant basketball coaching experiences. The candidate should possess a strong commitment to properly leading, mentoring and managing community college student-athletes in both the academic setting and competitive basketball realm. The Panthers basketball teams practice and play games at the beautiful PCC Cascade Campus. This is a less than part-time, $8000 salary-stipend position and not tied to a full-time position at the college.
Responsibilities:
1. Recruit prospective student-athletes and inform them of Portland Community College Athletics and Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAC) eligibility requirements.
2. Assure that student-athletes complete eligibility requirements for participation including, completion of financial aid applications, enrollment in required credit hours, meeting with academic advisors, and other items as delineated in PCC’s student-athlete agreement.
3. Determine which student-athletes will be offered letters of intent and tuition waiver scholarships. Assure that all student-athletes understand the terms and conditions in receiving tuition waiver scholarships at Portland Community College.
4. Work with assigned academic advisors and athletic staff to check and track student-athletes academic progress. 5. Work with the athletic department in scheduling contests (games, scrimmages, practices) abiding by set NWAC region schedules.
6. Transport teams to games and events and provide proper supervision. Meet all scheduled obligations; work with athletic staff to manage travel expenditures, ensure safety, and promote ethical behavior. 7. Work cooperatively with the athletic department on all financial purchases for the women’s basketball program, including all equipment, supplies, and program needs.
8. Properly manage all financial receipts, and ensure all paperwork is submitted to appropriately meet college timelines.
9. Promote and market the Panthers basketball program to the student body, faculty/staff, and community. 10. Help plan and facilitate team and athletic department fundraising efforts.
11. Understand and comply with all PCC Athletics and NWAC basketball policies, procedures, rules and regulations, including NWAC rules related to eligibility, playing season dates, travel squad size, home game responsibilities, scrimmage rules and pre and post season tournaments/championships.
12. Organize daily practices during the NWAC competitive basketball season (October to April). Develop and organize off-season conditioning and practice programs.
13. Partner with, and be a proactive colleague to, the other coaches within the college. Support their programs and the department as a whole.
14. Pick up and drop off vans from the rental agency for transportation to and from road games. 15. Design a flexible practice and training schedule centered on the students health and academic availability.
Requirements: Intercollegiate, Interscholastic, basketball coaching experience/background. Current First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain upon hiring). Valid and unrestricted Driver’s License. Formal background check.
Preferred Requirement: Bachelors or Associates Degree in related field.
The stipend for this position is $8,000
