Position Summary
The Director of Queer Student Services facilitates student success and retention by providing support services and outreach to students at Portland State who are Queer (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Questioning and/or Intersex), and helps promote a campus climate that includes queer community members fully in the intellectual and social lives of PSU. The Director oversees training programs, administrative processes, supervision of staff, and the management of a safe, inclusive space for students who identify as Queer and their allies.

The Director conducts assessment, research and resource development, functioning as a liaison between and the QRC and students, administrators, faculty and staff. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs.

  • Due to the direct service support nature of this position, all work is done on campus with no remote work option.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

  • Minimum three years experience working with people who identify as LGBTQQI.

  • Demonstrated history of leadership and community involvement with LGBTQQI community and a demonstrated commitment to social justice.

  • Ability to understand and articulate student concerns that includes the intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, and other significant aspects of identity.

- Have familiarity with the community of queer- identified people at PSU and in the Portland area.

  • Self-motivated and responsible in following through on commitments.

  • Have a basic understanding of office organization and clerical skills.

  • Experience and skills in supervising professional and student staff.

  • Able to work in teams and encourage collaboration.

  • Advising students’ learning and development.

  • Event planning

Work Days/Hours
Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, schedule to be determined

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $48,648 and $57,768. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
