Job Summary And Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The OR Scheduler performs non-clinical duties for the nursing unit under the direction of the registered nurse. The OR Scheduler role incorporates scheduling procedures as requested by the hospital’s customer with efficiency and accuracy. The philosophy necessary for the scheduler is to convey to the physicians/office staff/co-workers is one of easy, hassle free accommodation – a definite “can do attitude.”
POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES:
The OR Scheduler assists in the smooth, efficient functioning of the nursing unit including interacting with patients and their family members, maintaining supplies and equipment and general clerical duties including use of computer systems. The scheduler component ensures that all surgical procedures are entered into the Meditech scheduling module. Pre-operative testing, as well as necessary appointments are made in accordance with hospital and department policy and procedures. The OR Scheduler maintains excellent customer service at all times.

- Schedules tests/procedures as requested by hospital customers with efficiency and accuracy, while maintaining a positive and accommodating attitude.
- Repeats times/dates/test/procedures at the conclusion of the scheduling session.
- Handles all calls in an efficient manner to decrease wait times for customers.
- Ensures patients are scheduled with the appropriate status type; i.e. Inpatient, Surgical Day Care, Clinical, Recurring as well as the accuracy of the account number chosen.
- Maintains understanding of complexities of the services to be scheduled and the requirement thereof. Keeps manual updated with current material.
- Assists patients, ancillary departments, physicians, and physician office staff in a prompt, courteous manner. Is pleasant and supportive with all hospital customers.
- Uses computer systems accurately.
- Performs general clerical duties as delineated by nursing unit, i.e. patient data logs, unit reports, work orders, etc.
- Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of clinical/non-clinical supplies.
- Demonstrates respect and sensitivity in dealing with patients/ families/significant others.
- Communicates patient requests/needs to nursing personnel in a timely manner.
- Assists with communication between health team members as requested. Performs all other duties as assigned.
