What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Library Media Specialist position at Potosi Elementary School?
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Missouri teaching license and school library media licensure.
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: The library media specialist fosters a creative, flexible, and positive environment to ensure the library is an essential part of the learning community within the school. The library media specialist will instruct students and staff in effective use of the media center, information and technology literacy skills, and use of equipment; evaluate, select, and procure print and digital resources and related equipment; develop procedures to ensure efficient operation, services, and facility use for a 21st Century school library media program; implement a results-oriented information and technology literacy skills curriculum integrated with subject area curriculum through partnerships with teachers; provide leadership and guidance for effectively integrating technologies with instruction to create 21st Century instructional strategies; develop knowledge of curriculum in all subject areas; instruct teachers, administrators, and other staff in the use of new information technologies; recommend and procure resources for staff for use in meeting their instructional objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Experience with instruction on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process.
- Continually upgrades personal technological skills to enhance student and teacher learning.
- Promotes digital citizenship instruction to support appropriate academic use of information.
- Collaborates and works effectively with classroom teachers and other educators on a consistent basis.
- Experience in evaluating and selecting print and digital resources.
- Communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students and staff.
- Learns and implements strategies to instruct students in higher and more challenging levels of learning.
- Knowledge of curriculum development processes and learning theories.
- Understanding of student growth and development.
- Leadership, organizational, and budget management skills.
- Creates relevant, engaging, and personalized learning experiences for students.
- Ensures the library is the learning commons and hub of learning of the school by fostering creativity, exploration, and discovery.
- Promotes the development of literacy skills and reading appreciation.
- Develops the library media center programs and procedures.
- Orders media center materials needed for student circulation and curricular resources as well as develops procedures /schedules of circulation for student and teacher needs.
- Prepares state and district reports of materials and equipment as needed and requested.
- Coordinates and works with other school libraries both in and out of the district.
- Adheres to and follows all deadlines and requirements as presented by administration / state / federal law.
- Attends all meetings as requested by building and district administration.
- Maintains strict confidentiality as required by law.
- Develops a professional development plan annually and commits to lifelong learning and growth.
- Adheres to and follows all adopted Board of Education policies.
- Other duties that may be assigned by building and/or district administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually for non-tenured Librarians and every three years for tenured Librarians in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Librarians.
