Duties
- Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
- Take and develop dental X-rays while adhering to aseptic techniques and radiation safety protocols.
- Manage patient records using EMR systems like Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards.
- Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency during procedures.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration as needed for patient assessments.
- Educate patients on dental terminology, post-treatment care, and oral hygiene practices.
- Maintain infection control standards by following proper sterilization procedures and handling medical imaging equipment safely.
- Support administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and assisting with medical coding when necessary.
- Operate 3D scanners and other advanced dental technology to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic setting with knowledge of dental assisting procedures.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic; familiarity with medical documentation and coding is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, infection control protocols, and aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and various specialties including pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry.
- Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively educate patients about treatments and oral health practices.
- Certification or training in chairside assisting is preferred; additional experience in pediatrics is advantageous.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and patient comfort.
