Role:

The general purpose of this position is to oversee childcare services, which includes supervising staff as well as the Childcare Development Fund block grant. This position will ensure proper Center licensing, annual CCDF grant renewal, and collaboration with community partners to provide comprehensive services to children and families. The Childcare Specialist will oversee Center nutrition services and the Child and Adult Care Food Program contract between the PBP Nation and Kansas State Department of Education. The Childcare Specialist position will support a team management approach and will supervise five staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

MINIMUM: At least 2 years of experience in early childhood education. Must have experience with accounting, budgeting, timekeeping software, grant writing, health, and safety standards for childcare licensing. Must be willing to become CPR/First Aide certified within 6 months of hire. Must have at least one year of supervisory experience in a similar setting.

PREFERRED: 3 years of experience in early childhood education with 2 years of supervisory experience. Must have experience with accounting, budgeting, Microix, grant writing, health, and safety standards for childcare licensing. CPR/First Aide Certification.

Education:

MINIMUM: Associate degree in human services, social work, education, child development, or a related field. Adequate training/5 years of experience in a formal childcare setting may be considered in place of education.

PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in human services, social work, education, early childhood development, or a related field.

Driving Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license free of occupational restrictions, must be insurable with the Nation's insurance..

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of state, tribal, and federal policies in the areas of early childhood education, school nutrition programs, health and safety standards for childcare licensing, and child development practices.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Must have knowledge of the Prairie Band Potawatomi community and is sensitive to the traditions and cultural beliefs of each individual family.
