PRAIRIE GROVE SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Descriptions JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent of Operations CLASSIFICATION: Exempt REPORTS TO: Superintendent PAY GRADE: Licensed Salary Schedule LOCATION: District DATE REVISED: 01/22/2026 PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide executive leadership and oversight for the district’s logistical and support services. The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the Directors/Supervisors of Maintenance, Custodial Services, Transportation, Child Nutrition, School Health, and Safety/Security, ensuring that the physical school environment is safe, clean, efficient, and conducive to learning. The Assistant Superintendent oversees the daily logistics of transporting, feeding, and protecting students, as well as the maintenance and capital improvements of all district assets. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Facilities Management, or Public Administration. Specialist or Doctorate degree preferred. Valid Superintendent’s License or District Administrator certification (State-specific). Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of facility management and construction processes. Ability to interpret legal statutes regarding school safety. Ability to remain calm and decisive during security or weather emergencies. High-level conflict resolution and communication skills. Familiarity with USDA food regulations, State Health Department codes, and Fire/Safety codes. Proven ability to manage large-scale capital projects or fleet operations. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience, preferably at the district office level. Strong background in logistics, construction management, or operational leadership is highly preferred over a curriculum/instruction background. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Coordinate how these departments interact (e.g., how construction impacts traffic flow; how health services coordinate with cafeteria allergies). Serve as the primary advisor to the Superintendent regarding school closures due to road conditions (Transportation) or facility failures (Maintenance). Negotiate and manage contracts for outsourced services (if applicable) such as waste management, pest control, or food vendors. Oversee the district participation in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program, ensuring strict compliance with USDA and state regulations. Monitor the Child Nutrition Fund to ensure the department operates as a self-sustaining entity, managing food costs, labor, and equipment purchasing. Supervise the Director of Child Nutrition in menu planning, nutritional analysis, and the processing of Free & Reduced Lunch applications. Health & Safety: Ensure all cafeterias meet health department codes and staff are trained in food safety (ServSafe) and allergy management. Oversee the maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping of all district properties. Establish district-wide cleaning protocols to ensure hygienic learning environments. Direct new construction, renovations, and bond projects, serving as the primary liaison to architects, engineers, and general contractors. Manage HVAC, roofing, and plumbing lifecycles to prevent unexpected failures. Manage the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with local law enforcement regarding School Resource Officers (SROs). Directly supervise Commissioned School Security Officers (CSSOs), ensuring compliance with state statutes regarding training, mental health evaluations, and firearms qualification. Lead the district Crisis Response Team, managing safety drills (fire, lockdown, tornado), site threat assessments, and reunification protocols. Oversee the purchase, maintenance, and inspection of the yellow bus fleet and district white fleet. Ensure safe and efficient routing for daily pickup/drop-off, special education transport, and extracurricular activities. Supervise the Lead Nurse and ensure all school clinics are adequately staffed and stocked. Manage district-wide response to communicable diseases, immunization reporting, and individual student health plans (IHPs). Lead the District Wellness Committee in coordination with Child Nutrition and Health staff. Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Field Work: Significant time spent inspecting cafeterias, mechanical rooms, construction sites, and riding bus routes to assess safety. On-Call: High level of on-call responsibility for building alarms, bus accidents, or security threats outside of school hours. Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, walk, and talk or hear. Environmental Demands: Office environment with frequent visits to school sites, maintenance facilities, and construction zones. Hours: Standard office hours with frequent evening Board meetings and on-call availability for emergencies (weather, security incidents, plant failures).
