About the Job
A utility construction company based in New Windsor, NY is looking for a Project Manager to support the HQ leadership team and its divisions. The successful candidate will demonstrate a “can-do” attitude, is internally motivated, intellectually curious and enjoys working independently and with a team. This is a hands-on position which values individuals who are a quick study and have a desire to understand the utility construction business from the “field to the office”. Having a healthy curiosity in how things work coupled with strong problem solving, analytical thinking is a must. Previous experience in business process development and implementation is strongly preferred.
The position will work with the company’s divisions (segregated by both geography and service line) on a wide range of projects including project management, reporting, change management, equipment strategy, financial analysis and process implementation to name just a few. Priority will be on the construction/operational side of the business, but there will be needs to work on corporate projects from time to time, including our annual budget process. This is a corporate business operations position with additional opportunity and expectation of management accounting, job cost and productivity improvement as it relates to our operating divisions.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Project Management
- Overseeing projects from start to finish including project planning, scheduling, project accounting and project controls
- Play a key role in project estimating, planning, budgeting, project production, project monitoring, variance tracking and identifying resources as needed
- Administer customer contracts and actively participate/lead the change management process with customers as appropriate
- Subcontractor, supplier and vendor management experience preferred
Analysis/Operations
- Analyze financial data by collecting, monitoring and creating financial models for decision support
- Partner with subsidiaries’ management teams to improve profitability with data driven business analysis
- Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the management team and subsidiary companies
- Participate in the capital request and budgeting processes
- Improve profit by analyzing results, identifying trends and recommending actions to management
- Participate in job cost reviews, utilization studies and discussion
- Provide ongoing guidance to division managers
- Help to implement operational best practices
Reporting
- Develop, implement and review financial and operating metrics
- Create project budgets and implement regular tracking and variance reporting
- Contribute to the production of the annual budget and monthly forecasts
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
Desired Qualifications: The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering or finance. Two to five years of experience preferred, but not required. Needs to be proficient in partnering with external teams or clients, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills. Preference will be given to candidates with engineering degrees and/or construction management experience.
SKILLS INCLUDE:
· Excellent client management skills and the ability to work with customers to develop and manage an implementation plan
· Act as a company representative with the client, consultants, suppliers, contractors, and sub-contractor
· Effective time management and logical decision-making ability
· Capacity to handle pressure
· Willingness to travel extensively to divisions and their job sites located throughout the Eastern U.S.
· Strong focus on quality and accuracy
· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project is strongly preferred
· Ability to take direction and carry out projects from inception to completion
· Work with field personnel and subcontractors
· Must be able to organize resources including people, equipment and materials
· Must be willing to participate in continuing education seminars, classes, and certifications
· Knowledge and understanding of important contractual parameter of project where applicable
· Communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, both written and oral, are key to the position
Work Week: Willing to travel up to 50% of the time not including 1 or 2 deployments per year to a remote location that could last 1-2 months.
Work Environment: Home office is located in New Windsor, NY. The office is a casual and entrepreneurial environment. The office houses a collaborative, fast-paced executive team.
Salary: Commensurate based upon experience
