What are the responsibilities and job description for the Slitting Operator position at Precision Products Group?
Position Overview: Operates and performs routine maintenance on slitting machines that convert large diameter rolls into various slit widths for winding department or sold a finished product
Essential Job Functions
- Retrieves and loads paper on slitter with Clamp Fork truck, frequently required to lift up to 60lbs

Perform machine set-up
- Will need to set up blades as required to minimize scrap
- May need to change dull blades as needed
- May need to remove damaged material from master roll before slitting
- Threads the paper over/under various roller bars and then secures paper to cores or tucks as required
- Adjusts the bow spreader or buttons as needed before the run to accommodate width of roll
- Brings machine up to speed slowly, making fine adjustments as needed for quality paper and then increases speed when quality can be assured
- Moves materials to roll off table and stamps appropriate part number on rolls as required
- Breaks rolls apart if necessary and stacks neatly on pallet. Operator then moves paper to warehouse or winding as needed
It has always been the duty of the operator to check their own work at the time of the set-up and during the time the job is running. They are responsible for the tubes they wind and all the corresponding documentation, verifications, inspections, and production rates.
Other Job Functions
- Reads work orders and specifications to determine materials and set-up required to manufacture applicable part
- Retrieves a supply of required boxes and or pallets for finished products
- Able to insect all dimensions and request 2nd inspection as required
- Keeps work area and equipment clean and organized according to 5S principles
