Duties and Responsibilities
• Checks eligibility and does benefit verification
• Verifies and compares procedure codes (CPT codes), diagnosis, and insurance card information to the patient's exam
• Verifies that appropriate charges are applied for each service performed
• Sends insurance claims no later than five days after posting batches
• Regularly keeps the A/R below 30 days
• Knowledge of insurance guidelines, including HMO/PPO, Medicare and state Medicaid
• Assists in patient audits
• Receives, reviews, and corrects all returned mail
• Provides customer service to patients inquiring about their accounts
• Follows HIPAA guidelines
• Reviews and appeal unpaid and denied claims
• Answers phone calls, returns messages and replies to all emails to appropriate parties within 24 hours
• Participates in departmental training and continuing education programs
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• College degree preferred
• Ability to effectively interact with doctors, patients, attorneys and other staff members.
• Strong customer relations skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong computer/ internet knowledge
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of current office equipment
• Superior command of English language in writing and communication
• Professional in appearance, organized, and prompt
• Must be punctual, efficient, and detail oriented
• Some level of practice management software experience
• Respectful of all privacy requirements for HIPAA and also all personnel information
• Ability to type 35-45 WPM
