Optometric Technician
Premier Vision Clinic is looking for an organized, energetic and friendly Optometric Technician to join our team. Summary
The Optometric Technician works with the Optometrist and office staff to ensure a positive appointment experience for every patient. This person is responsible for preparing rooms, performing pre-tests and specialty tests, and completing documentation to ensure patients are ready to see the doctor. Answering patient questions via phone and email is also expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care and Appointments
- Greet patients and ensure they are moved through their appointment in a friendly and efficient manner
- Conduct all patient pre-testing and documentation, and any special testing requested by the doctor
- Assist the doctor in the patient appointment by scribing or other assigned tasks
- Teach patients to insert and remove contacts
- Open and close exam rooms; clean and sanitize rooms between appointments
Communication:
- Communicate with the doctor, office staff and patients to ensure appointments are conducted efficiently and patients have a positive experience
- Answer staff and patient questions regarding treatment, including contact lenses and dry eye
- Call patients who require follow up visits
- Review and follow up on office emails in a timely manner
Administration:
- Submit, monitor, troubleshoot and dispense contact lens orders; manage credit returns for contact lenses
- Order and maintain pharmaceuticals and exam room supplies
- Assist in other areas of the office as needed, including answering phones, checking in/out patients, dispensing and repairing eyewear, and special projects as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Customer/patient service experience, preferably in a medical environment; eyecare or optical experience preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficient in computers and relevant software applications; experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems a plus
- Demonstrated willingness to work in a collaborative team environment
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also accepting direction and feedback
- Commitment to quality by paying attention to detail and checking work
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
