Your Day.
As a MA Extern you need to know how to:
- Assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider and/or physician, which could include casting, bracing and injections
- Provide clinical triage/communication as defined by protocol or per provider instructions
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients including sterilization, cleaning, and checks on medical equipment
- Prepare basic laboratory tests on premises and prepare laboratory specimens
- Perform phlebotomy involved with proper collections, labeling, processing and distribution of specimens for laboratory testing from patients of all ages
- Assist back office in managing patient flow, paperwork and customer service
- Provide quality customer service and patient education based on assessment of needs
- Perform tests and procedures as ordered
- Accurately document patient encounters and interventions performed
- Relay provider instructions to patients
- Assist with all non-direct patient care tasks (autoclaving, stocking room, scanning records, mailing, etc.)
- Aid Front Office staff in managing details of patients, schedule and referrals
- Assist or lead in emergency situations
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the organization, i.e. HIPAA
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Medical education and passing a skills assessment conducted by PHMG staff
- If offered a permanent position, students have one year to obtain their CMA or RMA license
- Venipuncture skills
- Customer service oriented attitude/behavior
- Computer proficiency. Ability to use applicable software as required performing the essential functions of the job.
- Vaccines to include annual Influenza, Hep B, TDaP and TB.
