Yard Hostler

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Yard Hostler to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the efficient movement of trailers within the yard, ensuring that freight is organized and accessible for loading and unloading. This role requires a strong understanding of truck driving operations, particularly with tractor-trailers and refrigerated trailers. The Yard Hostler will play a crucial role in maintaining the flow of operations and supporting delivery drivers in their routes.

Duties

• Safely maneuver tractor-trailers within the yard to ensure optimal positioning for loading and unloading.
• Load and unload freight as necessary, ensuring that all cargo is secured properly.
• Conduct routine inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safety compliance.
• Maintain an organized yard layout, ensuring that trailers are parked in designated areas.
• Collaborate with delivery drivers to facilitate smooth transitions during route driving.
• Assist in managing inventory levels by tracking incoming and outgoing freight.
• Follow all safety protocols and regulations while operating yard equipment.

Requirements

• Proven experience in truck driving, particularly with tanker trucks or refrigerated trailers.
• Familiarity with freight handling procedures, including loading and unloading techniques.
• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred.
• Strong understanding of route driving logistics and trailer management.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively with team members.
• Physical ability to lift heavy loads and perform manual tasks as required.
