What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Services Caseworker Associate position at Prince William County Government?

The Prince William County, Department of Social Services, Homeless Services Division, is seeking to hire multiple, energetic Human Services Caseworker Associates to help maintain daily operations of the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center (HBHPC). The HBHPC is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is located in Woodbridge, Virginia. As a Human Services Caseworker Associate, you will be part of a team that will oversee the daily activities and operations of a family shelter that houses up to 30 people (single adults and children), who reside there.
ABOUT THIS ROLE:
In this role, you will maintain the safety and security of the facility; handle emergency situations and provide crisis intervention and de-escalation; complete data entry into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS); perform administrative duties to include maintaining daily logs, shift logs, incident reports and shelter forms; utilize Microsoft Outlook and Word; work together with community partners that deliver meals, and provide recreational and educational activities for residents; foster positive communication and rapport with volunteers and residents; coordinate volunteer activities; inspect residents’ sleep area; and work with minimal or no supervision. You will need experience working with homeless individuals, preferably for 4 or more years in a homeless shelter; and experience working with a vulnerable population with barriers. Certifications in CPR, First Aid, De-escalation and Crisis Intervention preferred. This is a front desk position. Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 3 years of related experience working in a homeless shelter.
Preferences
- 4 or more years of experience working with homeless shelters and individuals
- 3 or more years of experience providing great customer service in the workplace, managing crisis situations, and independently making decisions
- 1 year of experience working with volunteers and donors
- Proficient knowledge on being trauma-informed
Special Requirements
- Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services, and DMV background checks.
- All DSS staff are required to provide emergency human services work, including staffing emergency shelters in the event of a community disaster.
- Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
- Staff in this position cannot perform their job by teleworking.
- Staff in this position must be able to report to work in inclement weather or other states of emergency.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a set schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, regardless of inclement weather conditions.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE
The hourly range is $28.32 to $40.69
