Job Summary

Provides leadership and supervision in maintaining a high-quality standard of housekeeping for all assigned areas of responsibility. Assists in motivating Environmental Services personnel. Ensures that all assigned schedules are covered and completed daily on all shifts. Monitors workflow to ensure completion of duties. Functions as staff as required in completion of daily activities.

Essential Functions

• Supervise and inspect work performed to ensure proper cleaning of the hospital, stopping the spread of infections, and that it meets specifications and established standards.
• Demonstrates use of cleaning materials and equipment and explains methods of cleaning to new employees in crew to ensure the most efficient and economical use of materials and manpower.
• Reports to appropriate management concerning the status of each new employee’s training.
• Plan and Prepare employee work schedules. Assigns specific tasks to available personnel in work group.
• Evaluates employee performance and recommends personnel actions such as promotion, progressive discipline and praise in a fair and logical manner.
• Complete rounding to ensure that cleaning is adequate and that the first impression areas are being maintained and monitored throughout the day.
• Takes corrective action immediately as necessary.
• Instructs staff in work policies and procedures, and the use and maintenance of equipment.
• Coordinate cleaning and floor care projects with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
• Prioritizes requests and informs appropriate management of problems/concerns in completing services as requested.
• Inspects supply rooms and housekeeping equipment in assigned area to assure cleanliness and proper maintenance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

• This is a supervisor job which may have direct supervision of team members which may include hire/termination authority, disciplinary authority, and performance management responsibilities. May have budget input or responsibilities. Job is not considered a member of management staff.
  
  

Minimum Requirements

• Education - High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
• Experience - Two (2) years' experience in healthcare environment.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Must possess a working knowledge of cleaning techniques including the basic principles of disinfection, floor care, stopping the spread of infections, as well as a thorough understanding of the established standards of general housekeeping.
• Requires strong leadership as well as excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Must be able to motivate, develop and direct people as they work.
• Should be able to assess proficient cleaning through walking rounds and inspections.
• Proficient computer skills are preferred.
• Must have the ability to instruct staff in work policies and procedures and in the more technical use of housekeeping equipment.
• Requires the ability to effectively deal with the public, patients, staff, doctors, and employees within the department.
