Job Summary: The Medical Assistant Supervisor has the primary responsibility to train, supervise and direct all SKWC medical assistants. The Medical Assistant Supervisor will ensure that the medical assistants are monitoring inventory and supplies and following assigned protocols and procedures to support the clinical teams. The Senior Medical Assistant will perform other administrative and clinical procedures including back up for the Senior Medical Assistant to ensure all patients seen at the Stephen Klein Wellness Center receive high quality, efficient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant Supervisor is a key member of the primary care team and instrumental to its success. The primary care team includes the patient, his or her family or support system, and the patient's personal clinician (attending physician, resident physician, or physician assistant, nurse). The primary care team may also include, if warranted, a pharmacist, mental health and/or substance abuse counselor, and/or peer specialist. The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled member of the health care team who performs administrative and clinical procedures under the supervision of licensed health care providers. The Medical Assistant clinically assesses and triages walk-in patients or in-coming ?sick? calls from patients per the Stephen Klein Wellness Center triage protocol.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Supervises all SKWC medical assistants
Training and competency testing for all SKWC Medical Assistants
Coordinator for VFC and VFAAR programs
Performs Quarterly Audits for SKWC medical assistants
Ensures all medical assistants are performing their non-clinic responsibilities (cleaning exam rooms, red bag/sharps disposal, autoclave, calibrations, med refill line, etc)
Ensures all medical assistants are performing their clinical responsibilities with professionalism, accurate documentation and excellence in clinical skills
Back up the Senior Medical Assistant when necessary
Clinical Role and Responsibilities:
Determine the preferred mode of communication with patient
Demonstrate skills required to provide care to patients.
Assesses needs of the patient, providing proper care to meet those needs.
Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team including providers, nurses, Behavioral Health Consultants, and Community Health Workers
Performs various clinical procedures as required including but not limited to:
- Maintains clean and neat examination rooms
- Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and instruments
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for examination and treatment
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and take vital signs
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records.
- Ensure all appropriate preventive care is documented in the chart and ordered if due as per protocol
- Prepare and administer medications and vaccinations as directed by a provider
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Application of dressings and bandages
- Visual screening
- Carrying out aseptic techniques and following universal precautions and proper OSHA standards
- Provides patient counseling services and patient education consistent with directions of the supervising physician.
Performs various administrative tasks as required including but not limited to:
- Documents and Inputs all required data into EMR and other relevant databases
- Refill prescription medications for patients as per protocol
- Review provider worklists for lab and imaging results and address as per protocol
- Call patients/send letters as directed by the nurse or provider to communicate basic medical information and results
- Obtain records of care gaps, recent hospitalizations, emergency visits from hospitals and other healthcare facilities to support the care team and facilitate appropriate follow-up
- Assists with scheduling of appointments, tests, and treatments
- Sorting/Handling mail
- Medical Records filing/scanning/record-keeping
- Assisting with submitting medical claim forms for patient billing and bookkeeping
- Participates in primary care team meetings for case review, quality and discussion of evidence-based chronic disease management, integrated care best practices, etc.
- Participate in Quality and Risk Management Committee as designated.
- Develop and maintain activities to achieve Patient Centered Medical Home as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Minimum Requirements
Minimum Experience
Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program.
Certified Medical Assistant.
A high school diploma or GED.
At least two years of experience as Medical Assistant
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, internet.
Preferred Experience
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
One year of experience in supervisory role
Physical Requirements:
