Job Title: Special School Physician
Location: Ferry Pike TN
Duration: 3 Months
Rate: $230/hr. on 1099
Office Time: Thursdays 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Responsibilities:
Work Schedule:
- The physician would come to campus Thursdays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, only when needed to see students.
- Days Off: They would not come on the following Thursdays due to early busing:
- August 7
- September 18
- October 30
- November 20
- December 18
- April 2
- End of School Year: The last workday would be May 14, since most students leave early for summer break.
- Summer: No work required during summer break.
- Total Workdays: This schedule would result in about 30 Thursdays per year.
- Availability: The physician is not "on call", but may be contacted occasionally via phone or email for medical consultation.
Minimum Qualification
- Graduation from an accredited school of medicine
- Valid and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Tennessee
- Board certification in pediatrics, family medicine, or related field preferred
- Experience in school or public health setting preferred
- BLS certification required
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide general medical care, including examinations, diagnoses, and treatment of students
- Collaborate with the Superintendent, Director of Student Services, and/or Clinic Director in the development, evaluation, and revision of district health policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations
- May serve as a consultant to the School Health Advisory Committee, offering expertise on relevant medical issues
- Review and support emergency care planning within the school district
- May conduct student examinations to identify communicable diseases and physical conditions that may require intervention
- Prescribe medications and issue medical documentation for student treatment as needed
- Develop and authorize standing orders for:
- Emergency medications maintained on campus
- Transfer of students to emergency facilities
- Administration of CPR and use of AEDs during medical emergencies
- Sign authorization forms for influenza immunizations for both students and staff
- Promote and support ongoing medical education and/or training
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other occupational safety standards
- Serve as the district’s medical liaison when required
- Perform physical assessments and sports physicals to determine student eligibility as needed
- Provide guidance during outbreaks of communicable diseases, including coordination with leadership and recommendations to decrease spread
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and standard precautions
- Educates staff on medical topics and health concerns relevant to the school environment
- Offer medical consultations to clinic staff via phone or email as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
