My client is a purpose-driven beauty brand focused on creating premium skincare, makeup, and body care products that prioritize safety, efficacy, and environmental impact. To support their aggressive growth plans, they are seeking a new Director of Logistics to assess their current infrastructure, lead RFPs for future sites, and manage the migration future-ready distribution model. This role will rapidly scale with the growth of the company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic planning, 3PL relationship management, and network optimization within the logistics and warehousing sector. This role reports to the Director of Operations and is the most senior logistics leader in the company, responsible for all products in motion including inbound movement, warehousing, fulfillment, customer delivery (DTC, B2B). The role is hybrid, with 3 days per week spent at the company’s headquarters in Santa Monica, CA.
Key Responsibilities
Product Movement and Inventory :
- Oversee the entire product movement process from inbound receipt to customer delivery.
- Manage transfers for finished products, materials, and components.
- Execute and monitor all inventory movements (CM, 3PL, Transfers, B2B).
- Ensure inventory accuracy and reconcile physical stock counts.
Third Party Logistics Relationship Management :
Manage relationships with distribution partners, providing operational oversight and data-driven contract management.Develop accountable relationships with Customs, Brokers, Forwarders, Carriers, and Transportation providers.Enforce service level agreements and analyze compliance with agreed service levels.Network Assessment & Strategy Development :
Conduct a thorough review of the existing distribution network, identifying opportunities for improvement, efficiency gains, and scalability.Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess network performance, focusing on efficiency, cost savings, and service improvements.Perform analysis of BOM (Bill of Materials) usage.Create a long-term transformation strategy that aligns with the company's growth and customer service objectives.Lead feasibility assessments, including cost-benefit analysis and ROI evaluations for proposed changes.Change Management & Stakeholder Engagement :
Collaborate with Customer Service, Planning, Regulatory, and Finance teams.Champion process improvements to support a Netsuite implementation both cross-functionally and with external vendors.RFP Management :
Initiate and manage the RFP process for new 3PL partnerships, from drafting requirements to final vendor selection.Collaborate with internal teams to define project goals, timelines, and resource requirements for RFP initiatives.Review proposals with a focus on innovation, cost efficiency, and alignment with business objectives.Desired Qualifications and Skills
With the understanding that no one person will offer every desired skill or qualification outlined below, compelling candidates will offer much of the following :
Over 10 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics, or distribution, with a background in network design and analytics.A bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related discipline.Demonstrated success in leading RFP processes, managing third-party logistics (3PL) partnerships, and implementing distribution strategies.Preferred experience in the beauty or personal care industry.Preferred experience in direct-to-consumer fulfillment.A strategic thinker and thought leader with expertise in innovative warehousing and logistics solutions.High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with ERP, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and related technologies.Capable of utilizing technology to improve distribution efficiency and visibility.Strong financial skills, including cost-benefit analysis, ROI evaluation, and budget oversight.Effective at problem-solving and optimizing distribution processes, even without direct authority over teams.Excellent project management abilities, with a capacity to manage shifting priorities.Proven ability to thrive and succeed in a matrix organizational structure.Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $130k-$150k plus annual bonus potential and will be based on professional background and years of experience. Additionally, there is a generous benefits package, product discounts and the opportunity to grow with a dynamic and innovative, purpose-driven company. The company is currently hybrid, with 3 days per week spent in their Santa Monica, CA office.
