General Purpose of the Position
The Area Manager is the leader / manager of 4-12 Service Center Managers (Managers) in an assigned geographical region with the responsibility to recruit, develop and motivate a team of Managers to attain business results at both the Service Center and Area levels. While the Area Manager works within defined practices, procedures and policies, there is room for creating innovative approaches to improve and grow the business. The Area Manager is the key "link" or "go-between" of Area personnel, the Regional Manager and Corporate Staff ensuring that appropriate communication is maintained down, up and I across the company. Successful Area Managers maintain the right blend of task and people orientation to get the job done. They recognize that selecting the right talent, effectively managing individual performance, coaching / counseling / motivating and providing recognition is the key to maximizing profitability and business growth.
Essential Functions
Retain, promote and assure a continuous supply of highly competent Service Center Managers by:
- effectively managing individual Manager's performance through goal-setting processes, providing frequent feedback, coaching providing recognition / rewards and appropriate discipline,
- enhancing Manager's skills and behaviors through setting expectations, providing frequent feedback, providing needed coaching / counseling and arranging for or conducting training,
- continuously challenging people to improve and grow.
- monitoring existing staffing levels against current and future needs,
- attracting, assessing and selecting talent against established criteria.
Attain business results by:
- developing / implementing business plans and capital / expense budgets,
- monitoring key operating data to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure appropriate changes are implemented,
- auditing monthly business transactions, reconciling accounts and resolving claims,
- monitoring competitor business practices and industry trends.
Develop and maintain a team culture at both the Area and Regional levels by:
- modeling and aligning others with company vision/values.
- conducting periodic team meeting of Managers for joint problem solving, team building and communication,
- ensuring Managers understand the relationship of their individual performance to the overall Area, Regional and Company performance,
- continuously providing the information people up, down and across the organization need to know to do their jobs and to feel good about being a member of the team.
- willingly sharing best practices across the organization.
Maintain required compliance, liaison and relationship activities by:
- acting as liaison between the Area personnel, Regional Matrix (staff), Regional Manager and corporate staff,
- ensuring all actions and processes; comply with company policies / procedures, align with company vision / values and comply with external laws and regulations,
- acting as a champion of change
- supporting and ensuring Service Center compliance for marketing initiatives and the "Super Pro" training process,
- developing and maintaining business relationships with vendors, suppliers, retailers, fleet accounts in promoting business growth,
- representing the company in promoting and enhancing community relations.
