Job Summary
Our Logistics Manager will be responsible for managing a team of drivers, overseeing DOT compliance and fleet maintenance, planning and scheduling routes, analyzing route profitability and coordinating outbound schedules for pickups/deliveries.
Reports To: General Manager
Hours:Monday – Friday, flexing between 4am – 1pm and 8am – 5pm with rotational Saturday work (one Saturday/month)
Job Duties
People Management
- Manage Fleet Maintenance Coordinator
- Lead and direct team of drivers (Class A/B/C) and dispatchers
- Process weekly payroll for all drivers
- Ensure labor hours are within budget
- Manage performance of all drivers; develop, terminate and hire drivers as needed, supervising in the most effective manner to ensure KPIs are being met
Route Scheduling and Communication
- Directly manage the router who will perform daily routing; understand routing process in order to fill in for coverage needs
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of daily routes for delivery, based on traffic pattern, road, and weather conditions as well as customers’ receiving requirements
- Directly manage the dispatchers
- Oversee the planning and scheduling of drivers for daily routes; responsible to communicate weekly schedules and arrange on-call drivers for call-offs
- Finalize and a communicate with third party carrier to ensure orders are delivered in a timely manner the following day
- Ensure dispatchers schedule pickups of product and checks for following day
- Ensure dispatchers coordinate outbound schedules, both pickups and deliveries
- Understand dispatch process in order to fill in for coverage needs
- Review route sheets and complete yard checks daily
- Understand route profitability to communicate when a route should not be shipped
- Communicate routes to Warehouse Manager daily to ensure trucks are loaded appropriately
- Prepare all driver paperwork for the following day and assign driver credit cards
- Provide daily status update on the fleets to the General Manager
- Implement time studies in coordination with 2nd Shift Warehouse Supervisor to improve current warehouse operations
- Checking in drivers upon arrival, following check-in procedures
- Generate credit memos for drivers returning from routes
DOT Compliance and Fleet Maintenance
- Oversight of all matters of DOT compliance, including mandated DOT Safety training programs, DOT logs, HOS records
- Make sure all fleet maintenance programs are current
- Report all truck issues to the fleet maintenance coordinator
- Oversee purchases for materials and parts necessary to perform work
Position Requirements
- 5 years distribution experience in perishable goods industry, preferably with meat products
- 2 years management level experience in a distribution center
- 2 years transportation or dispatch experience
- Active class A CDL preferred
- High school diploma or GED required
- Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification from Moesle within 3 months
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, displaying the ability to align individual and team effort with company goals
- Capable of proactively and constructively working with individuals and managers from other teams
- Proven ability to solve problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Proven reliability to meet deadlines with complete and accurate work
- Ability to handle multiple projects and work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office package, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams
- Ability to use inventory computer programs to update counts and compile reports, such as spreadsheets
Pay: $80,153.00 - $95,264.00 per year
