What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk and Compliance Specialist position at R+L Global Logistics?
Risk and Compliance Specialist is responsible for lending direct support to the operations team and assist both our asset and non-asset based companies. This position will perform routine compliance and auditing of both new and existing carriers for the company, along with investigating and documenting incidents that involve company equipment, cargo, and personnel. In addition to ensuring the company’s fleet is following federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and company policies is a key initiative of this role, while also remaining a strategic point of contact for the overall management of claims made under the company’s auto liability, general liability, and cargo insurance coverage.
Risk and Compliance Specialist responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide professional assistance to adjusters, law enforcement, attorneys, and all other parties involved in incidents where potential liability and claims against the company exist
- Minimize the company’s exposure to risk by ensuring all claims against the company are examined thoroughly
- Protect the company from financial loss and occurrences that can diminish the company’s reputation
- Management of all incidents and accidents in regards to allegations of safety issues with drivers and any claims resulted from those issues
- Determine the legal liability, level of risk, and value of damage that has occurred for management to review
- Regularly review cases and monitor them daily to determine if the company’s reserves are accurate and if there are adjustments needed
- Effectively assess the level of damages that have occurred and negotiate with claimants, attorneys, and insurance companies
- Be the point of contact and correspondence for claimants, insurance companies, attorneys, and any other parties involved regarding the claims process
- Negotiate with all parties to settle any vehicle or personal claims within your position limits
- Be aware and current of the federal, state, and local laws and regulations applicable to the position
- Obtain necessary documentation to ensure all carriers are complete, accurate, and complaint with our company’s SOP’s
- Auditing necessary insurance, agreements, safety ratings, CSA documentation, along with updating the proper transportation management systems to reflect the information
- Performing deep dives on carriers and internal audits as deemed necessary by the company
Qualification, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree Business, Public Administration, Legal or related field preferred
- Previous compliance, risk management, loss prevention, freight claims and or auditing experience
- Ability to manage complex situations promptly and professionally
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and follow-up skills
- Exceptionally driven to protect the company from risk and other litigating issues
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to analyze and recommend company decisions
- Previous transportation/logistics experience preferred
- Ability to deliver the highest level of customer service to internal and external business partners
- Previous experience with the transportation management systems McLeod or Cargowise preferred
- General understanding of government regulations, policies or regulations associated with a multi-modal transportation organization
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
