DENTAL LAB TECHNICIAN
Qualification Requirements
All Temporary/Relief Dental Laboratory Technicians (Provider) assigned to CDCR must have the minimum experience outlined below:
1. A minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last twenty-four (24) months is required performing services similar in scope to those defined herein, in a public or private Institution. Internship does not count towards the required experience.
2. The required licenses, and/or certifications noted herein below.
3. Patients’ dental health care is of paramount importance. Accuracy in communications is critical to ensure timely, correct care is provided. Therefore, any Provider providing services through this Agreement must be proficient in the English language and be able to communicate effectively with CDCR/CCHCS. All Providers must be able to speak, understand oral and written communication, and write effectively, in the English language. Any Provider who fails to meet the minimum qualifications shall not be permitted to perform service. After notification of failure to meet minimum qualifications has been provided, CDCR/CCHCS shall not pay the Vendor for any additional hours worked by the Provider identified as not meeting the minimum qualifications.
2. Service Delivery Requirements
The Temporary/Relief Laboratory Technician shall provide the services noted below.
Under the direction of the Institution Supervising Dentist (SD) or designee, the Provider shall carry out skilled dental laboratory procedures necessary to fabricate and repair dental prosthetic devices for Patients. The Provider is responsible for compliance with all State and Federal infection control guidelines and safety and hazardous material storage and disposal. Provider is also responsible for compliance with all California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation security, safety and tool control protocols. Provider shall provide services as permitted within the scope of practice for Temporary/Relief Dental Laboratory Technician services, in accordance with Institution/Facility policies and procedures.
A. Duties/Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:
1. Ensure that tool control and safety procedures are implemented and followed daily.
2. Maintain control of and provide accountability for dental instruments, lab equipment, and tools, sharps and other equipment items that pose a threat to persons or to the security of the Institution/Facility.
3. In accordance with the instructions prescribed by a dentist, construct full and partial dentures; construct acrylic partial dentures; construct cast metal framework for partials, night guards, obturators, and occlusal stints; reline dentures; rebase dentures; repair partials and full dentures, reline dentures, replace teeth in dentures, construct bite blocks, articulated models, polish dentures, and adjust dentures as prescribed by a dentist.
4. Ability to interpret prosthetic dental laboratory prescription.
5. Track, monitor, receive and ship prosthetic cases within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions.
6. Procure, maintain, inventory and secure dental laboratory supplies.
7. Ensure safe usage and storage of all hazardous materials utilized in the dental laboratory.
8. Knowledge of methods, processes, materials, tools and equipment used in making dental prostheses and in dental laboratory work.
9. Skill and accuracy in making all types of dental prostheses.
10. Follow oral and written directions.
11. Maintain effective working relationships with healthcare professionals and others.
12. Respond to phone calls and emails from dentists and dental staff.
13. Be able to provide a status update on prosthetic appliances when asked.
14. Provide monthly production data on prosthetics, (i.e. the number of cases received, completed, in progress, etc.).
3. Licenses, Permits, Certification Requirements, Training
A. Prior to providing services as outlined in this Agreement, Vendor shall:
1. Ensure that each Provider shall possess throughout the term of this Agreement a valid certification issued by The National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology in order to perform services in the State of California.
2. Vendor shall ensure that all required licenses, certifications, and any other requirements outlined herein are current and in effect at all times during the term of this Agreement. Provider must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate received from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).
3. In the event the required licenses and/or certifications are to expire, Vendor shall provide current/renewed license(s), and/or certification(s) to Management Solution not less than thirty (30) calendar days prior to their expiration. If, during the course of this Agreement, any of the licenses/certificates and/or requirements are found to be inactive or not in compliance, CDCR/CCHCS may withhold payment for services rendered during the expiration period and/or immediately terminate the Provider.
4. Assume responsibility for verifying through the appropriate licensing/certification boards that no current or unresolved adverse actions have been taken by the State licensing authorities against any Providers assigned to CDCR/CCHCS, and that all licenses/certificates are active and void of misconduct. CDCR/CCHCS may, at its discretion, verify the current status of Providers assigned.
