Summary: Maintenance team members ensure buildings, processes, and equipment are operating properly through preventative maintenance and timely repairs, as well as identifying and implementing continuous improvement changes. You play a crucial role in minimizing downtime, maximizing efficiency, and preventing costly breakdowns in manufacturing facilities.


Essential Job Functions:

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine inspections, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues in machinery and equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
  • Calibrate and adjust machinery to meet specifications and maintain quality control standards.
  • Technical cleaning for items requiring a skill level above normal sanitation (Proseal heads, special pumps, vemags)

Line Setup:

  • Ensure line is prepared for the next day’s production, including equipment changeovers, line heights, depositor accuracy, etc.
  • Work with sanitation for any issues that may arise overnight.

Repairs:

  • Repair or replace faulty components, such as motors, bearings, belts, gears, sensors, and control systems.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for maintenance tasks.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and plumbing systems throughout the facility.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond to breakdowns and emergencies promptly to minimize production disruptions.

Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure all machinery and equipment meet safety standards and regulations.
  • Perform safety checks, including lockout/tagout procedures, before working on machines.
  • Comply with OSHA Safety and all company, USDA, FDA regulations for food plants. This requires the understanding of HAACP and SSOP plans and the ability to comply with these regulations.

Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including repairs, parts used, and equipment performance.

Troubleshooting:

  • Identify the root cause of equipment malfunctions and implement appropriate solutions.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Suggest and implement process improvements to increase machinery efficiency and reduce downtime.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor spare parts inventory and collaborate with procurement to ensure timely availability of required components.

Training:

  • Hands-on training for sanitation operators to run equipment properly and efficiently.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Post secondary education in some of the following: industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing, machine, welding, tool die making, and hydraulics.
  • 3 to 5 year of experience in a fast paced production environment – food experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC (Programable Logic Controller) systems.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Familiarity with maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Must be physically fit and able to work on feet most of the day. Capable of lifting 75 pounds repetitively.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to safety protocols.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.
  • Good communication skills to interact with other team members and management.
  • Ability to independently examine information and/or situations, evaluates potential impact, options and makes recommendations.
