Objective
The Baler Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of the baler while ensuring that all their efforts are compliant with the company standards. Duties may include processing products through the baler to shape, form, and compress materials. The Baler Operator should possess knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, as well as raw materials, and quality control to ensure maximization of the effective production of products.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

Essential Functions

• Run baler machine to compress and bind cardboard
• Maintain the work area, keep equipment in a clean and orderly condition, and follow prescribed safety regulations
• Break down cardboard, put on semi-trailer for recycling
• Open chamber doors and remove bales. Glasses, sleeves, gloves
• Set up, operate, and perform basic adjustments to the equipment per the individual job requirements, operating characteristics, and capabilities of the equipment
• Rebuild “Palletainers” and place in appropriate pick-up zones per the targets:
• 60 total per shift – 30 Ops, 20 WOW, 10 Shipping/Receiving

• Determine salvageable skids and place in appropriate area for pick-up.
• Salvageable skids to meet 37” – 38” width requirement

Required Education and Experience

• Required to stand for long periods of time
• May involve some repetitive motions - bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, and pulling of parts and part containers
• Must be able to frequently lift 50 lbs.
• Due to the open environment of the warehouse, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity, and cold
• Must have ability to read and write instructions
• High School Diploma/GED

Preferred Skills

• Hand tools; including Saw-Z-All, Staple Gun, tape measure
• Forklift
• Basic math

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Occasionally exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles. Occasionally work in high precarious places.
