Job Description:
Teacher Assistant
To work with students with disabilities under the direction, supervision of certified personnel and to assist students in reaching their goals as indicated on their IEPs.
Under Direction of Special Education Teacher:
1. Assist in implementing IEP goals.
2. Carry out small group instruction and assist in one-on-one instruction as needed.
3. Assist teachers and therapists in maintaining appropriate data and records
4. Support the continuous implementation of skills and goals associated with students’ OT, SLP and PT needs.
5. Carry out and maintain computer skills and communication devices for students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Have a high school diploma
2. Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI
Department of Education (RIDE). Two (2) exceptions to this particular qualification:
a. Those with certification as a TA in another state,
b. Those with an associate degree or bachelor's degree AND who have completed
coursework or other training consistent with the teacher assistant program
standards
3. Meet one (1) of the following requirements:
a. Successfully passed the ParaPro Assessment. OR
b. Complete at least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education OR
c. Obtain an associates or higher degree.
