The Forest Ranger works collaboratively with the Resource Unit team on preventative fire and suppression measures, and quickly responds to and fight wildfires.
Primary Responsibilities
- As the principal operator of the fire suppression unit, must be able to respond to wildfires in accordance with the Atlantic Region Fire Prevention & Suppression Strategy.
- During periods of high fire danger, must be in close proximity to fire unit and landbase.
- Perform fire prevention activities for the Resource Unit such as maintaining fire breaks, maintaining road right-of-ways for fire control, controlled burning, etc.
- Work collaboratively with Resource Unit team in assisting with fire management plan development and implementation.
- Assist Resource Land Managers with contract supervision on fire prevention activities.
- Demonstrates safe working habits.
- Responsible for fire unit maintenance and repair, budgeting, and related recordkeeping.
- Assist the Resource Unit when necessary, with contract compliance activities related to silvicultural and harvesting activities.
- Maintains safety as a core value at all times by demonstrating safe working habits and resolving unsafe conditions when they occur.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in wildland fire fighting and equipment operation.
- Experience with wildland fire fighting techniques, operation of crawler tractor during fire suppression, fire behavior, state BMP’s, basic equipment maintenance, and general forestry land management practices.
- General working knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel and computer use.
- Must have a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).
- Currently have a Certified Burner certificate or able to obtain within six months of employment.
