Position Summary:

The Leasing Assistant is responsible for providing support to the operations of the Property Management staff, including; leasing, collections, reporting and property operations. This position provides the opportunity to engage in the operations of the property, preparing for career advancement in the property management industry.


Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Learns and demonstrates understanding through practice the Activities and services performed to support the physical and financial operations of the property
  • Delivers excellent customer service to applicants, prospects and residents in person, via phone and e-mail
  • Maintains unit availability data for the property
  • Maintains prospect and waitlist for the property
  • Issues communication to prospect and applicants on unit availability
  • Tracks responses from prospects and applicants to ensure completion of waitlist updates, application completion and compliance file completion
  • Learns and understands the organization’s policies and procedures for marketing activities to rent vacant units in a timely manner
  • Learns the established guidelines to maintain and monitor property waitlists
  • Learns, understands and demonstrates through practice tenant selection and screening criteria and policies
  • Learns and demonstrates through practice the activities for the lifecycle of the tenant from pre-application to screening, eligibility, move-in, tenant relations to move-out
  • Must be able to adhere to organizational policies on non-discrimination.
  • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic background, religious views, political affiliation, cultural background, life-styles, and sexual orientations, treating everyone with respect and dignity.
  • Employee is to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General office procedures
  • Knowledge of Fair Housing Laws
  • Knowledge of Landlord-Tenant Laws
  • Microsoft office products
  • Good Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • General business knowledge and excellent customer service skills

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Related experience preferred

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and readily and effectively communicate. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include ability to effectively see within an office environment, which may include long term computer exposure, and to adjust focus accordingly. The duties of the job are primarily performed in an office environment. There is some exposure to noise in the work environment, which is usually mild to moderate.
