Readers 2 Leaders is seeking hard working and enthusiastic AmeriCorps members to assist with Summer Reading Camp and impact elementary age students in West Dallas. AmeriCorps members will help support the daily operations of the Readers 2 Leaders’ Summer Reading Camp by managing and monitoring students as they rotate through program activities, facilitating hands-on learning activities and computer-based independent learning, reading aloud with students one-on-one and in small groups, and chaperoning field trips.
Readers 2 Leaders Summer Camp will be fully in person, and members will work with students face to face each day.
REQUIREMENTS:
17 years or older
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Must serve full term
Interest in teaching, tutoring, and/or working with children
- Mandatory availability: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm, Friday 10:00am-1 pm
- Ability to pass a background check
Responsibilities:
Serve as a teacher/mentor in Summer Camp
Assist with the creation and facilitation of hands-on STEM and arts learning activities for students
Assist with Reading Buddies sessions for students (reading aloud with students one-on-one or in small groups)
Assist students with independent learning in the computer lab
Engage in professional learning on culturally relevant teaching practices
Attend all staff trainings and meetings
Support the general focus of Readers 2 Leaders through other mission-focused projects
Build positive relationships with students
TERM COMMITMENT:
06/03/2024 - 08/2/2024
HOURS:
Approx. 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri
Mandatory availability: Monday-Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm, Friday 10 am-1pm
COMPENSATION:
$3,000 living allowance
$1,459.26 education award
